I bought a new ds lite and the supercard lite. When I play I notice the battery life is not that long. I play with the brightest setting. Is battery life different when playing with the supercard as oppose to a regular ds game?

rorix_bladewing5

Yes, supercards use more power than normal ds cartridges.

rpg_god

I realized that I used a lot the soft reset function to switch games which might have something to do with it.

rpg_god

Maybe it has something to do with the superkey check before you can play games off the supercard?

rorix, thanks for your quick reply. I was wondering if it has something to do with the use of two cards at the same time?

The SC has to process info and such, it's not like a DS/GBA cart where info is basically just being read.

I estimate you can get only around half the playtime if you use SC.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Can you enlighten us on the "processing info and such"?

in any case, the supercard does consume more power than a commercial DS cart, but I have found that using the 3rd brightness setting, as opposed to the 4th (brightest) setting really helps a lot.

Well tests have been done on these forums, and the SC uses no where near that amount of juice. It was found the Supercard gets @ 10% less battery time than the same original DS cart being tested, when used with flashme. This is roughly my experience too on my SC's

The level 4 brightness drains the battery much faster than level 2 or 3, that's most likely the problem, as suggested.
Yes I'm mad

Well the summary of the test I did can be found here:
http://scdev.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5453&highlight=battery

From it, it shows that using a superCard drains more battery than an orginal cart.
The extra battery drain can probably be attributed to the extra reading from the SD card and loading to RAM etc.
There was no significance in using flashme or superkey or having anything in the DS slot or not.

I think my test results are only an indication of general higher battery drain. The difference in battery life will depend from game to game.
For instance I'm pretty sure if I had left the DS on the intro of Catlevania rather than Mario kart, the constant reads would have resulted in a much higher difference in battery life.

Finally I really do think there is a big difference in the battery life when using sleep mode with all the different hardware which I plan on testing after I sorted through all the single cart multiplayer stuff....

how do you change the brightness level when using the Superkey?  Does it just use the settings you make beforehand without the cartridge in it?

Haoie

Well maybe it's my battery dying or something, but mine's clocked at much much lower efficiency with power.

@tlogank
look in the sc dev sub forum and you should find a thread about alite it is a homebrew app that allows the changing of light settings inside sc.

If you want to change your DS Lite brightness from the SuperCard menu use ALITE!

Wow, I never knew about this. I just change the settings in the DS menu and then restart.
