Freeze at boot

Purchased a Superkey and Supercard SD combo from Real Hot Stuff (great sponsor :) ) to use with DS Lite.

I installed v2.55 of the SC software and converted some ROMs. Formatted my SD card (256mb) to FAT with Disk Manager under Administrative Tools. Copied the files over.

Then, I put the Superkey and Supercard (with SD inserted) into the proper spots and hit power. I see the menu load and LIST, SAVER, etc. show up top on the screen, but none of the buttons work. No files are displayed down below.

First suggestion would be to upgrade the Supercard right? I put the _163.bin file onto the card as well, but since it looks like it is freezing, doesn't seem to help much.

Any thoughts? I tried searching for "freeze" here and didn't find much.

Edit:
I read some more posts which suggested booting with just the Supercard in. I deleted everything but the .bin file from the SD card and took out the Superkey. Now when I boot, I chose "Play a GBA Game", the Supercard menu loads, and same deal. I see the menu options up top but none of the keys work.

When I try doing the L+R test, everything works fine except it says "not find test file" even though there's the 1.63 bin file on there.

Any thoughts?

Why don't you just format FAT by going to "My Computer", right clicking on the drive the memory card is in, left click on format and select FAT from the dropdown list before formatting. Now, run the SC patcher again, but point the output to patch the rom DIRECTLY to the memory card. Now put it in the SC and see what happens.

There is no difference how ya format it as long as it got formatted with fat rather than fat32... could have even done a command prompt...
however did you do a quick format or a full format? the card might be bad but thats pretty unlikely. have you tried the sc in another ds?
also when you boot the SC with no card in it does it give the card not found error?

Definitely formatted FAT.

When I put in just the Supercard with no Superkey and no SD card, the DS boots like normal but doesn't detect anything in the GBA slot. Should it still boot up with no SD card? When I put the SD card back in (still no Superkey), it does see the Supercard but still the menu doesn't seem to work.

Do you operate the menu with some weird button combos? I hit A/B/X/Y direction pad, start, select, and L and R but nothing really happens.

Unfortunately, I've only got one DS and don't know anyone with one, so can't really try it in another. I just bought it two days ago at Wal-mart and it played Mario Kart (real cart) fine.

Do you have access to ANOTHER SD card to test?

I was just trying to see if the supercard was bad or if the sd card you got was bad...
so try with the superkey in (to make it boot off of the supercard) but dont have the sd card in the supercard.
If something wierd happens there, its probably your supercard.

OK, I tried booting with the Superkey and Supercard (no SD inserted) in. I just get a white screen. Should I be seeing the menu instead?

You should see a message
"not find the SD
Please turn off GBA"
on the screen where the menu normally would be.
sounds like your supercard might be faulty.

Thanks, but I actually already got approval to return it to RHS and mailed it. We'll see if I diagnosed it right or wrong :)

Lately, I have received few returns claimed to be defective SC/M3. I tested them and some of them worked just fine for me including this one. I do not know if this is problem with thier DS or memory card or just the games they downloaded or something else.

Some bad experience with some customers, but what can I do? I have to try to customers happy. I will send a replacement to you even theough it works for me.
