Shit.
I had my DS in sleep mode, and removed the microSD card to put some new roms on it.
Then I re-inserted it, turn on the DS, and noticed it was in sleep mode.

Now, I get the title message.

Word up?

ShinaKitsune

I have no idea. Try turning it on without the card in it again to make sure it still has that message. then turn it off and put it back in... otherwise i have no idea why this would happen, is your card still ok and readable by your computer?

I think the card is destroyed.

I put the card in the micro->SD adapter and put it in my PC's card reader, and it's not recognized.  It was recognized minutes earlier when I copied some roms onto it.

So, pulling the card OUT while the DS was in sleep mode didn't destroy it.

Putting the card IN while the DS was in sleep mode destroyed it.

It was a Sandisk Extreme II 1Gig card with an SCLite.

Maybe I just got unlucky (cuz I was dumb), but you guys should be wary of this in the future.

ShinaKitsune

That sucks.
I've had problems with flash cards on my computer not mounting correctly, but the card sounds destroyed... can you still get it replaced under warranty?

I don't have the packaging nor receipt anymore... we'll see what I can do.

I may have just paid a $70 stupidity tax.

I see Fry's has a basic Kensington 512mb micro card for $17; i must just go for that for now.

bitblt

So you can't reformat your Sandisk Extreme II 1Gig? That does suck. You should be able to get a replacement from SandDisk like ShinaKitsune pointed out, without a reciept.  Yeah, I picked up one of those $17 512MB Kingstons from Fry's too.  Great deal, if not a little small by todays standards.

Discohiro

Oh, man.  I just did this with my MicroSD this past weekend.  I removed the flash card while the DS lite was asleep.  I guess it's my fault for not remembering that I put it to sleep the previous night.  I too don't have the original package or reciept.  At least I was able to get a good month out of it.

Devil_Spawn

wtf my suoercard never does this, i just tried it witrh a microsd and noothing damadged at all

Altor

Can you format the card?  Maybe the filesystem's just been damaged.

phatdump2

If you have access to another computer, with a different card reader, I would try it again.  Especially if you can find a computer with Linux or MacOS.

You can also try repairing the disk using the Ultimate Boot CD.  It won't repair a physically damaged disc, but if Windows is just being stubborn because the partition information is fried or something, you might be able to "re-partition" the disk.

If the disk is physically damaged, then you're probably screwed...
:?

curiousmike

I can try it on another machine.

However, I would think Windows should at least recognize it's presence... even if it has lost it's FAT.

ShinaKitsune

yeah, in like disk management it should at least show up as something.

It does show up in Computer Management->Disk Management as "unreadable."  No option to partition / format.

I tried Hirens boot CD and an 8-in-1 CD with a few different partitions managers.  I think because my card reader is USB ( aren't they all?), the drive isn't even seen because all of these programs run from DOS, and the USB drivers aren't getting loaded.

ShinaKitsune

Well if your BIOS supports booting from USB they should just show up as diskdrives.
My card reader/external DVD burner show up that way.
I think they are looking for a physical disc though, which USB flash drives are not.
Looks like you might be pretty trashed, any luck with trying to get it replaced under a warranty yet?
