In a surprise announcement, Nintendo said that it wanted to make Wii a living room centerpiece by shipping the system with features outside of the videogame realm. Wii will include a photo channel, enabling users to display their digital photos through the console. It will also boast regularly updated news and weather channels. In addition, the system will ship with the Opera Web browser, enabling users to connect online.

One of the channels available on Wii is called the "Mii Channel." Here, players can customize avatars by selecting from a variety of face shapes, hair styles, color schemes, and so on. The hook is that these avatars can not only be stored on the console itself, they can also be transfered to the Wii remote itself -- presumably so players can easily access their personalized characters and take them with them when playing against friends.

i was hoping for some surprising Wii Technical Specs, but i guess we will have to wait till later

Love the price and the facts it comes with a game and the nunchuck! $20 for the classic controler is sweet too, that cheap! $5 to $10 for Virtual Console games is flat out DUMB. Who here is gonna pay $5 for Super Mario 1? NOT ME.

Yeah, but I can see a lot of [regular] people doing it.  Big N knows hardcore gamers have ways of playing these games for cheap or free, but they probably figure the average joe wanting to play super mario 1 (with no way other than hooking up their old NES) will gladly pay $5.  I sure as hell know that if it wasnt for emulators, etc, $5 isnt that much...

I'm not going to go buy a NES + controller + Mario so i can play Mario. Why when I will have a perfectly good Wii to do it all for me!  :D Sure I can just download the rom onto my comp and play it with an emulator for free but that would be illegal

I still have my NES and my mario cart right here... I don't wanna play $5 to play a game I already have... but its still cool they are offering that. Also I am sure there is going to be "sales" and "packs" and the like... hopefully. Still think regular nes games should be $1 like songs on iTunes :p

It would have been nice if the would have included a few virtual console games with the Wii like Super Mario 1 for example.

wonder if any of the wii games will have them built in like animal crossing did, that'd be a not so expected but wonderful idea.

That would be cool. Maybe make them an unlockable "achievment" type thing ala XboX Live. Like in Shenmue you can go to an arcade and actualy play an old school game, maybe make it where when you unlock an old school game inside your new "next gen" title it would then put that old school game in your virtual console. That way the consumer feels they get something xtra for buying that $50 game.

Now that you point out Shenmue, which really is kinda off topic but I remember that they had the gashapon collectables in the game. It'd be an awsome feature to have that same affect in some way with the online support for Wii, to be able to trade items and collectables with players everywhere. Such as those or virtual games and what not. Just kinda thinking randomly out loud but why not. Like a pokemon card epidemic  :D

Yes sir I think you're right, we should go knock on their door and present our ideas through Power Point.

I'll have the Mario theme song remix as the bgm and i'll go through some stuff to see if i can dig up some laser light equipment. You'll have to recruit the back-up dancers though.

I think it can work ....
