well if you dont already know its going to start on the 17/06/08 so if you dont already use firefox its time to upgrade now & get yourself the best browser on the web

QuoteMozilla aims to make Firefox 3 a record breaker. It wants the release of the next version of its flagship open source browser to be accompanied by a record for the most software downloads in a single 24-hour period.

Download Day - as Mozilla dubs it - will begin the minute Firefox 3 is generally available and continue for 24 hours. Ahead of this release, expected in mid-to-late June, Mozilla has set up a website (spreadfirefox.com/worldrecord). This encourages people to organise Download Day parties, to run around collecting sign-up pledges at their university or place of work, and to place Download Day buttons on their websites.

What kind of business model do these free web browsers adopt? They sell licenses for corporations to use?

DeVS

In 2006 they made $72 million.

QuoteMozilla makes money. They make millions of dollars. Not bad for a free software foundation, eh?

How does it work? Well they have a partnership with Google.

Google pays Mozilla an amount for each user that performs a Google search from Firefox. Exactly how much Google pays, we don’t know for sure but I’d wager that it’s somewhere in the range of 1 cent to 5 cents per click.

Mozilla then made Google as the default search engine on all Mozilla FireFox downloads. It is the default web page once you open up the browser. Since searching for information is one of the most common activities on the Internet, almost all FireFox would simply use the default search interface. More income for Mozilla there
