Calling a software genius....issue with DSLink patching software...

I have been a DSLink user for a few years now, along with using other carts such as Supercard, etc etc. I have been using the patching software for years as well. I have always been able to patch the roms directly from the patcher to an inserted microSD card. But, just recently, it does not want to work this way. It simply writes to the card, says "done", and the program freezes up. It still works, but you can basically write one rom, then you have to use the ol' CTRL-ALT-DEL and end task on the patching app.

I had this problem and re-installed my PC (Win XP SP2) and it worked fine after that once or twice. Now it exhibits the same issue. I tested it on my wife's PC (also WinXP sp2) and it does the SAME thing regarding the freezing.

The program will not freeze if I write the patched roms to the HD first and then copy to the microSD, but it does freeze while attempting to patch directly to the card.

This is just very strange, and I have been scratching my head trying to find out why our computers do not seem to like the patcher writing directly to the microSD. I do not have anything special running in the background on her PC or mine (same old antivirus and firewall we always used), but it is just baffling that it is happening on BOTH PC's. Maybe some sort of update from M$ on both PC's has made this occur?

Anyway, it is not like I am a PC newbie (PC technician by trade), but I am at loss as to what it is. Maybe someone else has some insight?

this was a common problem with my slot 2 rumble cards patching straight to the MINI SD always caused issues with roms making them freeze and stutter :(

....my theory is that patching direct to card is that the patcher out puts the data stream much faster than the card can cope with maby the reason for this is that mem cards use file structures of FAT or FAT32 and basically choke when trying to buffer the data to the card moreso with LARGER roms 65mb and over(roms have grown dramatically in size for all the best stuff lately  :( ), you could test this theory with a small rom bout 20mb and see if it freezes still :)

hence patching to hd (usually ntfs..much bigger files can be used with NTFS upto gb sizes ) + faster  hard drive data transfer speeds it does not freeze at all :)

transfer from hd to mem card tends to be a lot less of an issue the data streams at a more constant ratio..

spose the easiest way to avoid freezes is to just live with OUTPUT to hd first and then copy to mem card sure takes a minute or so longer but hey its worth the wait  :)

Makes sense. Wonder why it used to work tho? Same card reader, same card, same OS....hmm. Oh well, guess I can't complain since the patcher itself still does work fine, just have to patch to the HD first. Not like I use the DSLink often (I have a cyclo and some other cards), but I still do run various tests on the card...and still like it :)

As per theory ... (could be wrong here) older games SMALLER ROMS ? maby?? lol who knows?? :)

try formatting the card, then replacing the files? something sounds up, as this is what i always do.
