Games crash, bad performance

Hi, I just got a Supercard DS One v3 (SDHC).  I've had a Supercard CF, Lite, and EZ-Flash V before, so I consider myself sort of experienced.  I've had a couple of unexpected problems with this new card.

First, Castlevania DoS's intro is stuttery.  My EZV runs it fine, and that's with a 2 GB "regular" sandisk.  I'm pairing my SCDS with a brand-new Sandisk 8GB class 6 memory card, the "multimedia edition" or whatever.  If you look up reviews for it, it blows all the other MicroSD cards out of the water in terms of access latency and transfer speed.  I don't consider a stuttering into movie a big deal, it's not like I watch it every day, but I'm surprised.  Tried DMA mode, no improvement.

Second, I was playing Space Invaders Extreme earlier today and it crashed in the first stage.  It just froze.  I restarted (soft-reset wouldn't work) my DS and turned off all the patching options I'd consider "extras" like RTS and soft-reset and it seems to work OK now but I haven't played it for more than half an hour so it might be a coincidence that it crashed at all, or it might be a coincidence that it hasn't crashed again.

Third, I've tried to play Elite DS 0.5.3.  It crashes, most often in the "local area map" (or something similar) when I try to change screens.  Again, I tried turning off all the options but I didn't see any improvement, it's unplayable.  Since this is homebrew and I haven't tried it on any other flashcart I'm not holding it against the supercard.

I figured out how to swap screens, then I ran the card speed autodetect.  It said I have a "4x" card, for whatever that's worth.  I tried adjusting this between 1x and 5x and didn't see any improvement in the problems above.

I just got the Supercard yesterday and these are the ONLY 3 games I've tried to play, so I'm feeling kind of discouraged.  I did the self-diagnostic (L+R on startup) and it says everything's fine.  I'd heard that the Supercard v3 was pretty much as good as it gets, with the cyclo DS being roughly the same.  But so far I'm not very impressed.  My EZV runs anything I throw at it and I have literally never had a game crash.  It lacks RTS and, much more importantly, SDHC compatibility, so that's why I decided to get a SCDS.

I know for my SC-CF I learned a few tricks to get things to run more reliably.  Are there any things I can do to improve compatibility on the SCDS?  Does enabling extra options like RTS and soft-reset reduce compatibility or cause problems, ever?

These roms are all clean, unpatched, untrimmed and I'm running the latest firmware.

Thanks

sandisk memory cards dont work well in scdsones X4 is to slow my kingston 4GB SDHC class4  gets X26 & the castlevania intros run smoothly

Is there a way to force the setting higher than 5x?

jmr

yeah!!

first format your SDHC card with the panasonic formatter
then put latest SCDSONE loader back on your card DSone_SDHC_V3.0_sp4_0718_eng

go to Option = SD Speed = Click Other

then raise the speed up in increments until you get a sweet spot (or just put it up to 15 straight away then go up from there)

then go to Other = save menu option

Altor

OK!  That's very helpful thank you.  I'll give it a try.  I'm confident this card should be managing better than it is.. even if SC as a brand just doesn't seem to like Sandisk (based on past experience...)

What is "save menu option" for?

Better yet, is there a comprehensive manual or wiki somewhere?  The half-translations get really confusing sometimes, putting aside the fact that flashcards as a whole have weird quirks in every model and generation.

QuoteWhat is "save menu option" for?
it saves your last setting other wise it will just revert back to the un saved setting on reboot

Thanks, but I meant something more like a page that says things such as:

"Don't use RTS on the following games, it causes problems"

"If games don't work as expected, try disabling X.  If it still doesn't work try patching it with Y."

"Reset doesn't work on these games:"

"Press Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, A, X, Y, B, Start to enable Run Properly On Sandisk Mode"
