Can anyone fix the L and R buttons of a DSphat?

Hi

Hello. As I've mentioned in another thread, the L and R buttons of my DSphat are no longer responsive. As I am starting to make increased use of my DS, this is a large annoyance. Many games and apps are unusable or difficult to use without functioning shoulder buttons.

I have been told my several people that this is probably a simple problem of misplaced springs. Even so, I'm not really confident in my ability to open up my DS without breaking it.

Would anyone be willing to fix it if I was to give money in return?

I'll need you to have a paypal account, as that's the easiest way for me to send money. I'll pay for shipping.

I don't have a set price for how much I'm willing to pay to have my DS prepared: set a price, and we can negotiate from there.

Thank you. Even though there's money involved, you're doing me a large favor.

i know this is going to sound silly but did you try blowing on the button. i read it on another forum and i thought it was dumb but my ds phat's L button died and i even opened it to fix it and it didnt work then i figured might as well blow on it and it worked so try it before you pay to fix it.

Hi

thanks thehunter8478, but unfortunately, I have also read about that trick, and doesn't work. I've tried many, many times.

@kkan, I sent a PM to bitbit before making this thread, and he replied that he can't provide services for an NDSphat.

I really think the problem is with misplaced springs- When I press down my L button, I can hear the spring squeaking. This doesn't happen with my R button, but then my L button has been broken for longer than my R button has, and this squeaking noise is new.

Like I said, you should order a tri-wing screwdriver from RHS and have a look. It might be something simple like the springs?

Hi

As I said above, I do think it's a simple spring problem as I can hear the spring squeak when I press the L button down. Even so, I'm really not confident in my ability to open my DS and put it back together in one piece. If I break my DS, I can't afford a new one.

I was able to install flashme, but that's really the most I want to mess with my DS's hardware.

Hi

I've read your tutorial many times before out of interest, JMR. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I actually think that tutorial is what has made me so scared of opening my DS...

Bitbit, that video makes me less nervous about opening my DS, I was actually about to order a tri-wing screwdriver when I thought I'd search google one last time...

...although I don't remember doing so, I must have used different search terms, because I got completely different results. This may sound funny but... well I was blowing wrong.  :P

I blew the right way, and my buttons are fixed. When I press down my L button, I can no longer hear the spring squeak.

I'm closing my offer. This thread can be locked if a moderator feels it's worth the trouble.

edit: it seems my L button isn't completely fixed- It works fine for most games, but a few things (such as AmplituDS) still can't be played with my L button in it's current condition.

I don't think I'm going to open it myself and risk breaking it when it's nearly completely functional, but I'd still be willing to pay a good $20 to get the button completely fixed. If anyone is willing...
