Quote from: "Koji"dateq: They couldn't just ban a MAC address, but your friend code is a combination of your mac address and some random numbers. Since your friend code has to be sent through the nintendo server, I'm pretty sure they could get at least the nintendo specific portion of the MAC address through that.

im about to say that.. and i say even move

the firend code is a combination of Mac adress and the Card ID ...

and with this nintendo can know Who is using what!

Dudu.exe: I dunno, it's looking less and less likely that it's a game ID. As has been said, it'd be incredibly expensive to create a custom ROM for every cart, and if there was any other unique part of the game, then the rom wouldn't be able to develop a friend code, or even go online at all.

Now the only solution I could see for them to do is to write something to s-ram on each individual cart... but that hasn't seemed to be the case yet for anyone... and if it is, it wouldn't be too hard to get a random S-ram generator to create unique game codes.

omaemad

well they cant ban ips since it could be (very likely a acesse point / public mcdonalds wifi station)

The friend code is always the same for every game

ok i buy mk i run it i get a friend code
i sell that mk buy another cart and generate a freind code on the same ds the code is the same!!

if i get tony hawks it makes a diffrent friend code

btw some guys on the main forum ripped the music off tony hawks and it works !!!!!!!! on wrg

the guy didnt give a detaile dtutorial tho

Tech question, whats the deal with the MAC addresses?

Do they get changed when you install FlashMe?
I always thought they were hardware encoded on the NIC, are you guys saying that it was stored in the original Firmware and gets replaced by the FlashMe?

The only reason I'm asking is because I was planning to buy all the cool games that had WiFi Net support and I'm curious if I've had the potential to mess up because I installed FlashME?

Anyway, I'm just curious

im just telling what nintend told..

omaemad

flashme has code not to change it!

remove that bit and it changes

dudu hows it going with mk cf?
btw a guy ripped tony hawks and it works online2 so see how the friend codes match up maybe we can understand them

maybe ninty meant mk starts with 500 tony with 600

Thanks for the answer Dudu :)

I thought that would be the case, but some of the other messages confused me.  I'd be surprised if you could change it.

But wouldn't you run the risk of having duplicate MAC's on a TCP/IP network?  That sounds like a recipe for disaster....

So if you and a friend both accidently use the same MAC address then you wont be able to play each other in multi-player games.

Or worse you could screw up a total strangers online play.

Whats the benefit of doing this?
I'm just curious....

Your actual MAC address only gets sent as far as your wifi router / network card at an actual network level - However if your MAC address is sent by the game for some other purpose it could cause conflicts but nobody knows how this works yet. The only reason to bother changing your MAC is if N start banning people based on it ( ie if games send it whilst connecting etc )

<GeekOut>
But what if 2 potential players are on the same TCP/IP Subnet?

How would the Router uses the ARP protocol to resolve the destination hosts MAC address.  Wouldn't the packet be received by 2 hosts ;)

I do get your point, I'm just messing with you :)

is two devices with same MAC A. try to reach the same router, it may get confused when it build its table..  he may send data to worng DS/pc , to both o  to none of then..

But what if the TCP/IP protocol is receiving to many sources and crashes then configurates an established continuity and cannot receive valid information

Seriously though i played it online last night and it was fine. Gettin the real game though just to be safe.
