there so slow.......

Ya people paid $350 1 1/2 years ago. I bet they could shave at least $100 off the price now cause surely the parts are cheaper to get now.

I can't believe they take money from people and delay it for soooo long.  One and a half years is just insane.

dantheman

The thing is, they needed the capital up front in order to get anything done.  Some of the delays were their fault, many were the fault of various third parties they tried to work with.

Granted, 1.5 years is a little excessive, but hopefully it'll be worth it for the people who paid.  At least there will be a working N64 emulator on launch!

DeVS

Ya, but most companies don't put the financial burden of r&d on the customers, lol.

Yeah, it sucks.  But I'm getting re-excited.  It's looking pretty slick.

First one on ebay

Wow, if socket can get that kind of money for Pandora on ebay then maybe it was worth the wait after all. That's a pretty good return on a three year investment.

Doesn't it still have the same specs as it did in 2008? Are they still as impressive as they once were? I mean, you can get a netbook for $300 now.

maby not as impressive now ....even my XPERIA X10 android mobile has a 1ghz snapdragon processor and can ALREADY play snes,nes,gba,gbc,megadrive/genesis roms VIA emulators at a pretty decent speed and they are currently developing a psx emulator for it too :P

as a fellow GADGET freak I will state though its ONE FOR THE COLLECTION! :)

I wonder if my friend Matt ever got his.  He called me last week asking if I would be free sometime this week for a "Pandora party" whenever he happened to get it in.

socket

I did get it and it's awesome.  :-D

It's a full computer just really mini... But it also has gaming controls.  You can't really compare it to a netbook pretty much based on the controls alone.  They are really comfortable and responsive.  Most of the software is still beta quality (minimal menus etc) but the emulation is coming along pretty well...

The PSX emulator is running nearly fullspeed with no frameskip slightly overclocked...
The N64 emulator, is pretty good already, too.

I'm currently getting into a few NEO GEO games and have been reliving some of my childhood DOS days with DOSBox.  Oh yeah, and ScummVM is awesome, too.  The SNES and NES emulators work fine but could use some improvement.  They're full speed, they just need better options menus and screen stretching/scaling.  The Genesis emulator is incredible.  Lynx is great... There are plenty more, too (Amiga, C64, Colecovision, Atari......)  Check out the app store here: http://apps.open-pandora.org

The build quality is really good overall.  The finish and feel is great.  The shoulder buttons took some getting used to, but they are fine.  They just don't have much movement.  I'm actually quite impressed with the feel of the keyboard.  Works just fine for thumb typing.

Overall I am extremely impressed.  The WIFI is a little shaky but works pretty well aside from occasionally dropping the connection.  Hopefully that will improve with driver updates.  Bluetooth works great, USB devices work great, etc.  I've been watching eBay but only the first few sold for the astronomical amounts.  I'm just going to hang on to it.  I (not so) patiently waiting for it for so long it's not really worth making a buck off of it.

If you can scrape up the cash I highly recommend getting in on the 2nd batch.  If you're on the mailing list they should be sending out preorder information soon.
