version 3.0 sp5 fix Chrono? and speed question.

Not had the chance to test it yet.  Does the version 3.0 sp5 fix the anti-piracy of North American Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest V?

Also I have a 1gb and 2gb made in Japan Kingston, a 2gb Toshiba, and a 4gb PNY also all made in Japan.  Problem is Castlevania DoS video is laggy on all except the 1gb Kingston.  I have noticed in the supercard menu there is a speed setting and the are all at 3X.  I have not messed with the settings (afraid of breaking something)  Would bumping up to 4 or 5X help or would you recommend using the "auto detect" function at all?
