Ok there has been talk about SD's lately and I know its been rare for folks to find a 4GB Mini SD that is non-SDHC.

Many have said they don't exist. But they do, but they are rare. Of coarse I could just use a Micro and use an adapter (Micro's and regular SD's have many non SDHC's available) , and I might...

but would prefer not using an adapter. However some folks are getting fake 4GB ones, and others have had problems. But here are some I have found:

I think I am gonna go for the $8.00 one, its as close to $5.00 as I can get. Unless I can get a Micro cheaper, but then I may get both.

Some say why not just use 2 2GB SD's. True wisdom, but I am using a SuperCard with kids, and don't want them messing around with switching discs. And once I get movies working that will eat up space.

...are you asking a question or just stating the fact that they do exist?  I don't know how exactly to respond, heh.

Yeah, I suppose it's not surprising that 4GB non-SDHC miniSD cards exist, though I've personally never dealt with them.  I'd imagine they might have some slight stability issues though.  In your other post you mentioned 8 GB cards, which I'm almost positive cannot work correctly, as the FAT filesystem itself is limited to 4 GB maximum.

Yeah I heard about an 8GB but never actually found evidence. And I also know the SuperCard has a limitation of 4GB.

I am posting for 2 reasons.

Perhaps someone with experience using the 4GB with the SuperCard can actually tell their experience.

I also would like leads to cheap 4 GB Micro's as well. Under $10.

I got my 2 GB for less than $3.00 with free shipping I think, perhaps even less than $2.00.

Well I decided to order a 4 GB one. While I only spent about $2.00 on my last SD, it was a Micro and 2GB. It appears getting a Mini for under $4.00 is a bit tricky, but am sure I could get one in a month. This was a major deciding factor. I figure a 4Gb Mini should be worth twice the price of a 2Gb, and maybe a tad more, for the rarity and just the technology behind it. So I bought one off Ebay for $9.90. That included shipping. So its about twice the price of a 2Gb Mini, and maybe just a little more.

I know however, that this purchase probably has about a 50% chance of success, after reading about others using 4GB, tho that research was not solely on SuperCard use. Some folks ended up with fakes. 2GB that were hacked to appear 4GB. And so on. some people had it only work for hours or a few days as well.

But most of this also dealt with venders and sellers with shaky reputation or no reputation. I got mine with someone on Ebay with over 6000 feedbacks and a high percentage of positives. I also confirmed with the seller these are non-SDHC. I asked if I could save on shipping by ordering 2. He said no. As the shipping was about half the price, getting a 2nd would have made it a really good deal, oh well.

It's been paid for. So when it arrives and when I get my SuperCard in I will try it and let everyone know how it works. And if it stays working.

hahahaha, i remember when me and my bro got our first 133x 4gb sd cards, we pay $120 something for them plus a rebate $30. that was back in 2005/06
and when we got our supercard lites we pay $50 for your 1gb microsd sandisk LOL

That $8 MicroSD is a HCSD, so it won't work for the SuperCard.

I am still awaiting mine from the Ebay purchase.

Well I got it in the mail today. I also got my new car today, so priorities took me til late tonite before I could test the Mini SD.

I put on the games and movies without formating or anything, and the GameBoy recognized the SuperCard but the SuperCard menu wouldn't come up and only had a blank white screen.

So I formatted the Mini Sd using the tool I discussed before, and then put the games and stuff on, and still no go.

So I guess we are stuck with 2GB...

I decided to go back and try this card again. I used the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and formatted it all 3 different methods available as well as formatting it thru XP, and still no go. The SuperCard won't boot up in my GameBoy with it. Tho for 1/2 a second I can see the menu try to load before it goes to the white screen of death.

I really really wanted to get a 4GB going, oh well. I will try again if anyone has any suggestions.

I just won five 2GB Mini's off a relitively new Ebay seller, one as low as $2.49 and the highest for $3.76. I am taking a chance with a new seller as I hear that every once and a while a new seller comes in and sells junk SD cards. This person has 19 feedbacks and a 95.2% positive feedback, and the only negative was for slow shipping. But none appear to be previous sales on these Mini SD's.

I am finding it hard to get cheap Mini SD's as the Micro's are more abundant. So far I have 1 Micro and 1 Mini, both 2GB. 1 I have loaded with movies, and the other with games.

Mini's are available but winning and finding one under $5.00 is rare. Tho I did get 1 (as stated above), and it came with a SD adapter, however it was junk and actually had rusted connectors. I wanted use it to read and write with, as I also am having a hard time finding a Mini reader/writer. Lots of Micro's and regular SD's writers.

So I contacted the seller before leaving feedback and we'll see how it goes. I am happy I got a Mini under $5.00 even if the adapter is junk.

I did find some universal SD readers. usually they are universal by using an adapter, but there are some rectangle ones with slots on 2 or 3 sides with different SD sizes. I won one, and its on the way. If it works I will report in. Supposedly it can take a Micro, Mini or regular Sd without any adaptors. It was only $1.49.

I have 1 Micro reader and 2 SD readers. I also bought 2 extra Micro Sd adapters to Mini size off ebay cheap, and they are good, so have 3 total of them. I have 2 Mini to SD adapters but as stated, 1 is junk. And I have 1 Micro to Sd adapter as well. I am trying to build extra's of all these for future SuperCard use, since we may be having 3 SuperCards in the house. And since I can't get the 4Gb to work we may be swapping cards around.

So winning 5 Mini's was very very nice! lets hope they work.

Oh I also had 1 other problem on Ebay, another new seller was selling Mini SD readers, but pictured was a Micro reader. I noticed that after bidding. I reported it and then pulled my bid. Ebay refused to help me, and the seller refused to cancel my bid. Ugh. So I get a penalty against my account for canceling the bid.

One of my SD readers isn't very good, the other works great. the Micro works great as well. So I am also hoping the universal works good, if it does, gonna buy 3 more.

Oh I forgot, I also won another 2Gb Mini which should be on the way again. So after a couple months I did finaly score, with 6 on the way. the 6th was also from another new seller. Wishing well for that one too. It takes a lot of patience to get cheap Mini's. Cheap Micro's are easier to get. and as such got another otw from the seller for my 1st one. $3.99 with a SD adapter. Was very happy with the 1st one.

I also have another regular SD reader otw as well.

And I did get another Brighter screen GBA SP off Ebay, for about $34.00, my oldest son is excited, and I get his old one and will sell the regular GBA soon.

I also ordered 2 AC adapters, and 1 car adapter. they are on the way. Right now we only have 1 AC adapter. Camping is soon, so the car adapter is for the kids long drive. That was off Ebay and from UK, everything else (except the GBA) is from Hong Kong. Been doin alot with Hong Kong lately. And Deal Extreme did reimburse me finaly for the postage of sending back my original SC that went bad. and the 2nd (really the 3rd counting the bad one)should be in the mail and coming soon. We probably won't get a 3rd SuperCard till late summer, cause I am still undecided if I will get something else, but leaning toward the really cheap SuperCard prices. And not having to research another card really has strong pull. And it appears they did not give me the new price, oh well.

So if all goes well, 7 cards otw, should set me up well. I will probably get a couple more adapters, and if the Universal writer/reader goes well, get more of those and I will be set.

Nice job.  I searched for a couple weeks, bidding on a good number of backlit SPs, until I finally got one for $30 since the item description was a bit unclear as to whether it was the backlit or frontlit version.  The backlight is *really* nice.

Regarding the power adapaters, I made a portable solution myself.  Cut off the end of a car charger, soldered the wires to a 4-AA-battery compartment I bought at Radio Shack for $3, and taped the exposed wires.  I now have a way to charge my GBA SP and DS Phat using disposable batteries, which is useful for long trips where I don't have access to a power outlet or a car outlet (long bus rides for instance).  It's something to consider at least.

The bright screens came in 3 colors: Graphite (dark grey, but not black), Pearl Blue, and Pearl Pink. (Cobalt)

The model # is AGS-101.

flip over your GBA and look, it's on a sticker on the back or something, If it says AGS-001, it's a original model SP.

I emailed about 20 auctions asking what model #. Got tired of that, and decided to just search title and description of AGS-101, knowing I would miss some, but not all. And it took me only 2 weeks to get one at that price. We have 2 pearl blue ones now.

Yeah, I knew about the model numbers and everything.  It's just that for this specific item, it looked like a Pearl Blue but I wasn't able to confirm that it was indeed the newer backlit version.  I bid on it anyway, and it turns out I was right.

Would have perferred Graphite, but I wasn't about to spend the $60 or so that everyone was asking for them, so I got Pearl Blue instead.

yeah of the 20 or so sellers I emailed, one said there wasn't any model # of either kind on his for sale. I think he didn't know what to look for or didn't care, and even a 2nd email never got a # confirmation. So I bid on only those which advertised the correct #.

wanna report my SD Ebay experience.

That auction where the seller falsely titled his auction refused to end my bid and I ended it myself. Oh well and Ebay wouldn't help me. They asked me to ask the seller.

Which leads me to a big Ebay issue. It concerns the 5 Mini Sd's I won. After I paid for them Ebay cancelled the auction! thats right, cancelled after I paid for them!

And everyone is saying its for my protection, LoL. its like putting on socks after putting on the shoes. the guy already has my money. Well Paypal is working to get the money back, but wanna give the seller 20 days to work it out. DOH again! It was Ebay and not the seller who ended the auction.

I went on Ebay chat channel for help, and it took 6 representatives and 45 minutes to tell me:

1. They dont know why I wasnt notified about the cancelation
2. They cant fix that
3. It was cancelled for my safety

I am really ticked about it, but hopefully I will get my money back. I been with Ebay many many years and have good luck most of the time.

I have gotten 2 more 2 GB Micro's in tho and they work great. I also discovered I can get Micro to Mini adapters at DealExtreme for only 1 dollar, so I ordered 4 from them.

I got another regular SD reader in that works great and the Micro's came with Micro to regular Sd adapters, and they work.

the seller who sent the bad Mini to Sd converter is sending a replacement as well.

My oldest son was wise enough to ask when he gets his SuperCard will he have his own SD cards to use. I am 1 step ahead of him on that of coarse, and he was happy to hear it.

I think I will be satisfied when I get 9 of them.
