No HDMI on the wii... So yeah you'll need some kind of converter.  Not really worth doing unless the only input option in your TV is HDMI.  It's not like it will upgrade the quality.  I don't even know if such a converter exists.

Apparently it displays in 480i ....

And There's a component cable HDMI for Wii

QuoteAV cable.

Allows you to hook your Wii console system to a high-definition TV (HDTV) or enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) to view 480p progressive output.

Please note that your TV must be a high-definition TV (HDTV) or enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) to view 480p output.

You will also be required to change your Wii settings from Standard TV (480i) to EDTV/HDTV to view 480p. You cannot see Wii 480P progressive display output when the Wii console system is hooked to a TV using the original cable that comes with your Wii console.

Specifications:

- Supports 480p/720p/1080p LCD, Plasma or HDTV systems
- Enable display with natural and vivid colors
- High definition and resolution

shop01media sell them here

for US$9,88 :)

if you want better than 480 then you will probably have to use an UPSCALER or VGA box like this

also avail at Shop01media  ... link

US$65,39 (maby you can find something similar elsewhere) :)

No HDMI, but you can get component cables which improve the picture. Here are some examples:

component on left composite on right:

You get better picture with component then composite. Crisper picture and fuller color. Just have to make sure your TV has component ports. Even the component only outputs at 480p cause thats the MAX the Wii can output.

you could maby get the VGA box (see second picture I Posted) it will take the component cable and give you VGA output but remember that the Wii can still only output @ 480i/480p :(

johnny9562001

not worth it than, i think i just might get the wii component cable and then buy the component to DVI, thats the cheapest and best way to go, considering that the wii only has 480p output, what a waste, so much for my 1080p LCD  >:(

Hey if you are ever going to buy an hdmi cable, please check out this site www.monoprice.com . I have bought from them a couple of times (as well as a few guys at work), and their cables are great! Just thought i would share this with everyone as they are so cheap and good quality!

I purchased the official Nintendo component at a local Coconuts for $15 two weeks ago. I am running on a Samsung 42" 1080P. Of course all you can get out of the wii is Widescreen 480P, but I have to say that the difference between this and composite is night and freakin' day!

I've always wondered this but aren't there games that do not support 480p?  What happens to those games?  And another follow-up is... what about the Gamecube games (both those that support only 480i and the ones that have progressive scan)...  :idiot2:

If they don't support 480p they just play at whatever the max performance they can.

I thought you had to do hold some buttons to use the 480p display (though that might be for GC games)...  :idiot2:

Although, this thread is useful too.  If I ever get around to getting an hd tv, I might as well get a vga box for the Wii.

If you have the 480p cables then you just go into your Wii system menu and choose the 480p output in your settings.
