so I like my psp 2000 but I'm curious about something. just short of soft modding it is there any other way to play old nes and psx games on it? if not what is the best custom firmware to use for what I want it to do?
I like playing video games, whats wrong with it?
I'm gonna turn an old broken gameboy into an mp3 and mp4/avi/flv player.

no other way to play nes games unless you mod  ...PSX games you can buy them from PSN (Playstation network online with psp)  other than that to play PSX games and other emulators  it really needs modding either with a pandora battery ..... or using the chickhen tiff file exploit (google for more info there are a few guides on this ..never used the chickhen exploit myself only pandora batterys ...so cannot offer more guidance with it) :(

hm. what about if the game is converted to psp format? can I play without soft modding then?

unfortunately not when you download a game direct to your psp it comes with the needed registration keys specific to your psn acct and your psp id/serial number for it to work on your psp when you convert it these keys are removed or broken so will not or no longer work with an un modded psp ... once modded the keys do not really matter as the custom firmware takes care of all this and the keys are not needed :)

Just slap a custom firmware on it and you wont have to worry bout anything  8)

latest is 5.00 m33-6

wouldn't suggest going any higher as it offers nothing special!

I agree with kkan, I have a PSP 2000 with 5.00 M33-6 (came with M33-3 if I remember correctly, bought a premodded one, and updated it), so far almost every game worked perfectly (DJ Max Fever needed a patch to disable the piracy check), also homebrew (loving Sonic CD on my PSP) and PSX games (converted using Simple Popstation GUI).

Can you download a PS3 game and burn it on to a disk and play it on the ps3 console and if so how?

No, the PS3 is the only modern console that hasn't been exploited yet.  In fact it might not happen for a long time because of the way the Cell processor security works.   Even if someone finds a TIFF exploit it won't give the hacker full control of the PS3 system like it does for PSP.  The best hope for the future would be a mod chip for PS3.
