Nintendo DS hardware homebrew new project

Greetings fellow video game and homebrew enthusiasts!

It is my intention to, starting from scratch with nothing but a working DS, a PC, some tools and raw materials, create my own flash cartridge and software or other exploit method to allow homebrew and backup games to be played on my DS. With this experience, it is my dream to set up a web site with an open-source version of this hardware and software, along with tutorials on how to create it and make it work.

Obviously this is going to be a long, difficult undertaking. I have scoured Google and a host of forums for resources, but have come up snake-eyes on that. So I am asking you to help me take the first step on this. Do you know of any technical data sheets of the DS, schematics for cartridges, exploit software source code, detailed or alternative methods for exploiting the DS, people who have previously attempted to do the same, or anything else that might be useful? Once I have collected sufficient data, I will start a blog to share this information all in one place and detail my efforts with it.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help!

I'd look into things like Natrium42's blog and GBATek for some documentation.  Darkfader's site might also help.

Ah, most excellent! Thank you!

It's true, i've only owned my DS for a few months, which is why my interests only recently turned this way. But I find this device so fascinating in the potential that could be unlocked from it that I just can't resist seeing how far I can take it, hardware and software wise. With multiple CPUs, serial-like connectors to external hardware, small form factor, a touch screen with decent resolution and internet connectivity, the possibilities are endless. A GPS? A scientific multitool? A CNC router or other robotics controller? How cool would it be to connect this thing up to an antenna and control a tiny RC plane with a camera in it? The video could feed back to the DS while you were doing aileron rolls and nose dives!

lol, sorry. Geeking out here :)

thinking big huh?!

Well there's a few DS hardware projects put there like SLR Camera controller and there's the JUMBOTRON DS (look on youtube)

there's also a GPS too and a few other things

The DSerial might be right up your alley.  I know some other people used a DS as a robot controller, but I can't remember the name of the project.
