I have a PSP Phat with 5.00 M33-6. Is that the newest firmware? What the difference between this and 5.50 Gen D?

5.00 m33-6 IS the latest version GEN-D is not as compatible with homebrew and ps1 games but works well ... I went to it with one of my PSP's to be able to use more latest games but the need for this now isn't necessary with the game patcher and decrypter and the patched releases of all the latest games so you can stick with the more compatible m33-6 firmware ;)

Can I directly update from M33-6 to 5-50 Gen-d2?

yes you can but you really don't need too there are patched versions of ALL the latest games out there anyhow ;)

when I updated they had not released the game decrypter and patched iso's and now they have pretty much patched every new release now to work on m33 firmware :)

only reason I have not gone back to m33 is because i'm LAZY lol!

DeVS

Why go back to M33 is all the new games work as is with Gen-D2 and have to be patched up to work with M33? Is the people who make M33 not gonna update it so it wont need to patch the games?

M33 is made by Dark Alex and as far as I know he has stopped making custom firmware so doubtful there will be any more versions released!

Meantime its just as easy to just download a PRE PATCHED version... I did initially start patching them myself but quickly found that other people are doing it already and uploading them so just easier to grab those versions :)

The latest GEN D2 does not need them to be patched but like all GEN firmware its not very stable with homebrew and PS1 games :(

I was confused about this - just started learning a lot of this stuff recently... A little confusing and so many forum posts out there with so much garbage in them..  I'll start a new thread with my current issue.  Cool to know about the stability... I just went back to m33-6 today.

yeah I know what you mean about threads ... personally I have 2 PSP's one on M33 and 1 on GEN-D2  :)

best of both worlds :P

And back to GEN-D2 this morning because I forgot my GT isn't patched and wanted to play it on the bus.

hmm... i thought i patched my games last night but just getting black screens... oh well.  will give it a go again tonight.

kkan

if yer on DEN D2 they are supposed to work UNPATCHED  ;)

Oh yeah, I left a part out, I was trying to get it work with m33... Whatever, I am back to GEN D2 for now.  Some homebrew is in fact wonky, but nothing crazy.

Perseid

What homebrew are people having problems with on GEN-D2? I had a horrible time getting it installed(had to format flash 1 because the system wasn't booting), but now that it's on there everything I use works fine. I played some PS1 games, the popsloader selector worked. All my plugins still work. The 6 or 7 emulators I use still work. There are no 1.5 extensions, but I don't use 1.5 programs anymore anyway.

I'm just curious as to what you guys are running that doesn't work. Maybe I can help get it to work.

Going back to 5.00 m33 is only a temporary solution if D_A doesn't update anymore. As time goes on and the API changes more games are going to actually require what's in newer updates and games are going to start getting funky if you don't update. This happened in the days of devhook.

DeVS

I just moved over to D Gen 2 also. No need for M33 anymore as far as I read.

Hmm, actually everything I try now homebrew wise seems to be working fine.  Cool, I'll stick with GEN-D2 unless I find any other problems.  Thanks for your offer of help Perseid, but I'm not having any problems now!
