Too many games = slow load times?

So I just got a 8gig Kingston MicroSD. Through time spent trouble shooting and whatnot it seems as though the more stuff I throw on the card the slower it reads.  If I just have one game and the OS on the card, it will load the game within at least 10 seconds of clicking on it.  If I put 90 games on there, it takes so long to load that I get impatient and just turn it off.

I've attempted breaking down the games by first letter (Putting all the games starting with 'A' in an 'A' folder, etc) hoping that less files in the directory I'm in would help, but that didn't do a thing.  I'd like to prevent having to constantly take the MSD card out of the system to update the games that are on it.

Are there any settings in the OS to allow for faster load times?  Is my card a bad card?

Here's the card I grabbed: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134717

Thanks ahead of time for your help, and apologies if this was posted before and I wasn't able to find it.

Also, I'm on the latest Firmware and OS for everything (system and card).

i have the same cart & memory card as you (dsonei & Kingston SDC4/8GB) & ive just tested with 50 roms & 50 saves & all the roms i tested boot within 10 sec's

have you set the speed in the "auto set sd speed"? your card should get 25
hows your memory card formatted? & what did you use?
first boot of a rom the dsone has to make a save file which can take a few sec's
why would you need more than 2 roms on your cart at a time?? :)

Thanks a ton for the reply.  I don't think I have the SD speed set to auto.  I poked around the menus a bit in the OS and couldn't really find anything to change it to an "auto" setting, just the 1x, 2x, 3x, etc.  I opened up the global.ini (I'm using Zorlin's English Pack) and for SCSD speed this is what I've got:

;0|1|2|3|4
;0 1X ,1 2X,2 3X,3 4X,4 5X,5 other
SCSDSpeed=2
;1-32
;1 1X ,7 2X,17 3X,24 4X,30 5X
SCSDSpeedValue=17

Can you let me know what yours are set at?

I do definitely expect the first boot to take a little longer, but these are going terribly slow.  I've got 5 games on there right now, and just loading one takes about 3 minutes.

auto set sd speed

manual set sd speed

Alright, your pictures (which btw it's totally awesome you did that, it's very appreciated) gave me some things to try.

The "Set SD Speed" option that automatically selects your speed for you keeps trying to save it as a value of 6.  I think this was the beginning of my slow reading problems.  Going in and manually setting the value through the Option>SD Speed>Other wouldn't allow me to change a value at all.

So here's what I did (incase someone has a similar problem and reads this thread).  Manually edit the global.ini file of the OS to the highest values possible, and on auto.  Such as below:

;0|1|2|3|4
;0 1X ,1 2X,2 3X,3 4X,4 5X,5 other
SCSDSpeed=5
;1-32
;1 1X ,7 2X,17 3X,24 4X,30 5X
SCSDSpeedValue=32

Once that's done load the OS up on the DS.  Now (for some odd reason), if you go under Option>SD Speed>Other instead of reading the value of 32 that you entered into the ini file it registers as 6.  But, once you tap on "Other", there's a number in the center box (wasn't there before) and tapping on the "+" allows it to be changed.  Ramp it up to at least 25 and everything starts to become wonderful again.

All in all, thanks for all your help jmr.  It's fixed, and she's back to normal.  I salute you.

Hey Chris,
I added some test info to your post over at the SC forum.  My 8GB Kingston Class 4 card does appear to be slower than my 4GB Sandisk Class 2 card.
I tried your fix and still have issues. >:(
The Newegg reviews make it sound like the Taiwan memory (what I have :() is slower and considered sub-par to the Japan memory.
Can you and JMR tell me which fab you have Taiwan or Japan - its written on the card (in the middle).

Thanks
