Had massive wind and rain and water was somehow directly dripping into my PS3.  Did not notice it until I powered it on and whoom!  Dried it out with a hairdryer and some lava rock overnight.  It actually fired up for 5 minutes twice the next morning, but then shut off and went to blinking red light.  Fired it up later in the day and it lasted 45 minutes and same thing.  When I tried to power on after that it would try to turn on, but after a couple seconds it would beep twice and go to the blinking red light.

This is a 80 gig that is about 2 years old and out of warranty.  I followed some directions on the net removed the sticker and took the screw out to remove the cover.  The cover was a b to get off and when it finally did plastic clips and things snapped off.  I undid the screws and removed the shell to reveal the insides and have been letting dry that way.  Called Sony and the dude said that if I sent it in for repair and the techs found out it was wet they would not try and repair and send it back to me.  I was thinking about paying the $150 and sending for repair until the guy told me that.  I was hoping it would dry better this way and have been trying to fire it up daily hoping it would work, but it has the same results.  I also tried removing the hard drive as I read that may work, but did not.

Does anyone have any other ideas before I go out and buy a slim or one off of craiglist?  Thanks for your thoughts.

Sorry to hear it man.  I don't have any suggestions though.  Sounds like you tried what I would have.

Hey socket.  It has been awhile since I have posted on here.  Good to know you are still around.

Clean it up and send it back to Sony. They will offer you a new PS3 slim for $150.

Thanks bitblt.  I found a place on the web called Wired Games that is claiming to fix for $80.  Also, saw some youtube videos that were interesting.

Hey what's up?

I'm thinking of doing a total overhaul of the site and forums.  Not sure what to do yet.  But yeah, I try to pop on at least once a day!
