SNES

There is an SNES emulator that works on all iDevices called snes4iphone. The beauty of installing this on the iPad is that the emulator supports the use of the WiiMote. You can run the emulator on your iPad to use its big beautiful screen and then use a WiiMote as a controller so you dont have to touch the screen at all! The emulator runs every game I have thrown at it with sound but im not 100% on the compatibility with all SNES games ever made. These are just ports of the popular Super Nintendo emulator Snes9x so im sure compatibility is very good. This emulator also works on the iPhone and iPod.

There is a great how to on LifeHacker to get you up and running here: http://lifehacker.com/5584439/how-to-play-snes-on-your-ipad-in-four-easy-steps

Here is a video of the tutorial for snes4iphone:

You will need to jailbreak your iDevice before you will be able to use these emulators. Here is a guide about jailbreaking (there is also a quick how to in the above video): http://www.scdev.org/forum/index.php/topic,15462.0.html

There is also another SNES emulator, SNES HD, that will let you use your iPhone or iPod as the remote while your iPad does the emulation and acts as the screen.

Here is a video of SNES HD working:

ScummVM

The iPhone version of ScummVM has been tweaked to work beautifully on the iPad now. This guide will install ScummVM on any iDevice but it truly is the best on the iPad. In order to get ScummVM you will need a jailbroken iPad/iPhone/iPod (guide for jailbreaking is here: http://www.scdev.org/forum/index.php/topic,15462.0.html).

Installing ScummVM

Once it is jailbroken just open up Cydia and go to "Sections" at the bottom.
Once there scroll down to "Repositories" and once there scroll down and push on Urban Fanatics Source.
Once you push on Urban Fanatics you will be given a new screen with the "Add" button at the top right corner.
Add the UrbanFanatics repository. After it has been added do a search in Cydia for ScummVM and choose to install it (Latest version is v1.1.1).
Once you have ScummVM installed you will see the icon on your desktop. Before you can play you need to add games to your iDevice.

Adding Games

In order to add your games you will need to know how to SSH into your iDevice (guide here: http://www.scdev.org/forum/index.php/topic,15471.0.html
Once you have ssh'd into your device create a folder called ScummVM in /var/mobile/  so afterwards it will look like this /var/mobile/ScummVM/.
It is inside the ScummVM folder that you created that you transfer your games (your games have to be uncompressed and in their own folder for each game).
So for example if you have the game Day of the Tentacle you would have it in /var/mobile/ScummVM/DayofTentacle/game files in here

Thats it. Fire up ScummVM and use it like you would on the pc. It looks and works beautifully on the iPad. The touch controls are tight and the screen size is perfect. There are two modes of touch, one is touchpad where you just touch what you want to use and the other is where you drag an arrow icon across the screen and use it to tap on stuff. The touchpad option is the best and has to be turned on because it is not the default control setup.

Wiki

Here is the offical wiki for ScummVM for iDevices: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/IPhone#Controls

In that wiki you will see what the controls are for when you want the ScummVM screen to pop up during a game in order to save the game, end the game, choose a new game ect.

Njoy.

Here is a quick video of ScummVM in action on an iPad:

Shame he stopped using the speedhack database made for SNES Advance.  Then again I suppose the iPhone/iPad is capable of running games a bit better than the GBA could, heh.
