3.41 is ok, its 3.42 that blocks it. You can easily downgrade from 3.42 to 3.41 also if you need to.

read somewhere that they changed the 3.41 too hence the reason that firmware update is on a lot of torrent sites

...Do we all remember that they did this kinda thing with the TTDS card (unrelated but kinda related topic) ....they released an update to kill off fake cards then alterted previous releases on their website to also contain the killer firmware to stop people downgrading to avoid the killer code!


guessing they have also done this with sony updates in an attempt to stop people buying older consoles and using the firmware via pc update to avoid getting the latest 3.42 update

Kkan - Sony did not change the 3.41 firmware. Even if they tried to change it there are copies of the original 3.41 firmware available online. What Sony did was release a mandatory 3.42 update.  Mandatory means you can't access PSN or play online without upgrading to the new 3.42 firmware.  So PS jailbreak is only blocked if you decide to upgrade your PS3 from 3,41 to 3.42 firmware. To avoid being blocked simply do not accept the firmware update when prompted to download it. Sony can't update your PS3 automatically unless you have automatic updates enabled.

BTW you don't need a PS3 phat to use PS jailbreak.  It works with PS3 slim too.

Yep I know it works on all PS3's but I'm going to get a second one purely for exploitation and PHATS are pretty cheap now for a second experimental console lol

Yes, I understand you want PSN. There is a DNS hack that will allow the PS3 to go online using 3.41 firmware, but Sony is likely to start banning PSN accounts sometime soon. Hopefully there will be a workaround for that problem in the future. Having a second PS3 dedicated for online play is good workaround for now.

I went ahead and updated my PS3.  If I can scrounge up a spare few hundred dollars I will pick up another to jerk around with.
