PS3 Key (quick review)

I got a PS3 Key in yesterday. It is made by the same people who make the WiiKey. I like it because it is super small, has the led lighting that turns blue when the hack is activated and red when it is not. It comes with a serial number that you use to register with the PS3Key site in order to update the software which is locked down to their devices. You can use 3rd party software on it if you choose to though so thats cool. Their "proprietary" software has been nothing more then Hermes work added to their software, the PS3Key team have added NOTHING new to the software, just copied everyone else's which is a bummer. They claim they are going to have features that are only for the PS3Key but I honestly doubt it. The free software scene is moving so fast I suspect the PS3Key team will just continue to copy their work. Previously I was using the TI-84 calculator to run the hack and I have to tell you the PS3Key (or any clone of it) is sooo much more convenient to use. I paid like $44 for it from modchipcentral (bought another for the same price from foundmy). For ease of use (dont have to compile the new software releases yourself like you have to on all the other hacks) it was worth the money, and I would recommend it.

hey DeVS,

Long time no see.

I never updated my 60GB PS3 (phat) when the firmware update that removed "OtherOS" came out (I just wouldn't do it, in case OtherOS would be required for a future exploit).

Am I eligible for this new ps3 key to work on my system?

I had NO idea of any of these "jailbreaking" developments!  I happened to be browsing through some torrents and saw some PS3 jailbreaking toolkit, so I googled it just now, and was BLOWN AWAY!!!

Finally, ps3 backups!  I'm so shocked.. gonna back all my games up and never worry about scratched blurays again.

I came right over to ScDev.org, as I knew I'd find good clear info here, and I was right.

Hi sneef. Long time no see.  Welcome to the PS3 hacking party.  You should probably manually update your PS3 to 3.41 so you can run the latest released games, including Move games.  So far Medal of Honor is the only new release that requires a firmware greater than 3.41 firmware.
