Well, I think I mentioned in another thread that I purchased a new grey DS and the Superpass worked and I was able to flash the unit. The unit that I had flashed had a newer serial number as well.

I purchased a second grey DS for someone and that one flashed as well. Old firmware on a NU417** machine.

Tonight I went and purchased two blue DS units, thinking I would surely have to use my new Passme2 (just received it in the mail today as a matter of fact) but before I did, I tried my trusty Superpass just for the heck of it. Guess what? BOTH saw it and I was able to flash them both just fine. Hence, both had the old firmware.

This is strange. I am not sure if there really is a way to track new/old firmware. These units were all brand new, half purchased at Target and the other half at Walmart. Maybe the new firmware exists in units in different regions? I live on the east coast (USA) and this is where I purchased all of these units.

Either that, or I am just darn lucky

i think you are just darned lucky!  or the walmarts and targets in your area do not move much stock :wink:

Two of my friends bought brand-new gray DS from wal-mart.com and the local wal-mart, and I flashed both of them with my superpass....Viva la superpass!

My DS's serial is NU40XXXXXX, and I also managed to flash it with superpass.

Hmmm maybe there was a problem with the newer versions of firmware in rare circumstances and thus they quietly went back to the old one till they could find a new one.

Or maybe it's something simpler like they started up more some older manufactering plants to prepare for the holiday season and they didn't have the upgraded firmware applied in it.

That could be, as these are without a doubt new systems....serial number wise as well. Either way, I have two flashed DS's now (one grey, one blue)..one to abuse and one to keep fresh!

some people cant even afford to rent a DS console & some like zektor buy 2, 1 to abuse & the other for back up. the world is fucked up place for sure .

The world isn't fucked up. I wish I could be the kid who just gets things and has all the time in the world to sit home and play and hack. But, I'm 30 years old. I just work damn hard and make enough to be able to do something like that. The really fucked up part about it is that I have to work almost 60 hours a week, and barely get enough time (or the energy to) play the game system. Even the so-called abused system will not get the abuse I wish I could give it. I spend 95% of my earnings on my family (wife and child) and what is left is what I can play with. This is how I do it...still a kid at heart!

And btw, the person that can't afford to rent a DS should not be thinking about games at all. That person should be looking for a job before anything!
