If you do the qpc once, will it speed the game up forever, or do you need to do it every time that you play the game?

The QPC method is for saving:  it does not speed up games in any manner.  What speeds up games is patching only with "Enable Save" selected, as the patches that cause the slowdown are not applied by doing this.  However, in order to be able to save without the slowdown-causing patches applied, you must use the QPC method.
