I am planning on buying a DS tomorrow and I was wondering if the supercard sd and super pass work on the Red DS that comes in the Mario Kart Bundle?  If so, are there any extra/special steps I need to take because it has the new firmware?  I have heard different things from different people from another forum and I was hoping to get some clarification.

yes your supercard will work but no, not your superpass. since the red ds has a new firmware you need passme2 and that should do the trick, then just flash your ds with flashme for protection and then you dont have to be using the passme2 anymore.

I think I may be getting a red DS for Xmas.  I have a SC for GBA already.  In order to flash the DS will I need to buy a passme2 or is there something else I can do?  If it turns out I have a regular DS what is the easiest thing for me to do to be able to start playing DS games?

It's very likely that you'll need a PassMe2.

Also, some of the red DS units are reported to be lacking the SL1 hole. If that's the case, it'll be a bit more complicated to install FlashMe. (As in it would involve probably opening the case of your DS.)
