Hello there everyone :o Great forum and great compatability list!  8)

Now, on to my problem...I recently got a supercard, and it works great with my SP. However, on my Nintendo DS, GBA games lock up after playing for a few minutes. This is normal right? I prefer playing my games on the DS more than SP because of the backlit LCD screen. :P

Oh, and another problem...I can't seem to convert my avi files into gbm files. The GBA Movie Maker says the conversion fails everytime. =/ I used Meteo 1.4 instead, and the movies look great!

Thanks in advance!

Games locking up period isn't normal.

Deadmon

hm....how odd.

I tried Kingdom Hearts, Zelda: Minish Cap and Wario Ware Inc. so far...all froze.

Did you format your CF card correctly?  Have you tried patching with the Supercard software and playing the patched ROMs only on the DS?  Have you tried different ways of patching?  Are your ROMs verified?

I don't have a DS myself, so I can't really help too much.  But, as dshier89 said, games should not be locking up just because you're playing them on a DS.

I'll try formatting my CF card again. I patched all the games with the Supercard Software and played them on the DS first. After finding out they didn't work, I used the SP and it worked fine. I tried some different ways of patching, and I'm not clear on what you mean by verified. =P

EDIT: I tried patching without any options except for enable save, and my games still freeze on the DS. (Tried with Megaman Zero 2 and Kingdom Hearts).

When I say verified I mean are they verified good dumps.  You can use GBA-Renamer to first identify your dumps, then GoodGBA with the GoodGUI frontend to verify them.

You're formatting the CF card as described in this sticky?  Can a GBA cart fit in the DS slot of a DS?  If so, are you putting the Supercard in the GBA slot or DS slot?  Do you have another CF card to try with the Supercard?  When you play a game, does it freeze at the exact same point each time, or after the same period of time has passed?

There's definitely something wrong here, but damned if I can think of what it is.  I've been a little preoccupied the last day or two, which hasn't helped either.....Hopefully another DS owner can pipe in.

Thanks for the help so far Diablo! :D

I verified my Kingdom Hearts ROM, dumped by Venom, seems good.
Yes, the supercard does fit inside my DS (I have the newer version I guess). I have another flash card, which is a 32MB, but that one itself is screwed. (Computer can't read it). The game freezes up at different points. Sometimes near the very beginning, sometimes at a push of a button, sometimes a few minutes after playing.

I'm using a SanDisk 512 by the way.

Yes, you evidently do.  Though, that's not what I was asking.

There's two different cart slots on the DS, right?  One for GBA carts, and the other for DS carts.  I was asking if it were possible to fit the Supercard (a GBA cart) into the DS-cart slot on the DS.  If it is possible (which, BTW, I don't think it is :?:), make sure you're putting the Supercard in the GBA-cart slot.

Can you format the other CF card you have using any of the methods described in the previously mentioned sticky?  If not, can you run chkdsk on the CF card from a command prompt?

If the drive letter of your CF card/reader were Z, the command would be:
chkdsk Z:

If errors are located, you can try fixing them, though I don't know how that would work on flash memory...:
chkdsk Z: /F

Deadmon

The DS cart slot is really small, so you couldn't be able to fit a GBA cart in it. (A size of a DS cart is like a SD card)

I can't seem to format at it at all.

When I run chkdsk, this is the error

The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed.

Although the card is fully in, and a blue light on the PC shows that it's connected.  :?:

I think the 32 card is physically damaged, and the only way to fix it, is to replace it. :P

Diablo

Can you try adding the /X switch (that forces a dismount of the drive)?  So it would be:
chkdsk Z: /X

If you get the same error, then I agree:  the card is likely physically damaged.  However, do you have a digital camera, PDA, or other device that you could attempt to format the card with?  If they are able to format it, then you should again be able to reformat it using Windows...

BTW, thank you for the clarification regarding the size of DS cartridges and the DS slot on the NDS.

I just tried that command you suggested, but there isn't a response afterwards from CMD. Now I am almost sure it is physically damaged, because the digital cameras I have cannot read it either.

Anyone else with a DS want to help me here?  :)

(I checked this forum and GBATEMP's forum, but it doesn't seem anyone has complaints with the Supercard working with the DS..)

plflorence

I would love to help coz I have a DS......
but I still haven't got my SC card yet
but hey I'll join you two whenever I FINALLY get mine...... -_-|||

Deadmon

I emailed Kicktrading.ca and they just said there might be game patches etc., they also recommended to post at GBATEMP, but I have already done that, and no response. :P

There must be some people that use the DS for the supercard, I saw that poll in the General forum..lets hope NTolerence comes here, I know he uses his DS to play games...hopefully :P

I had a similar problem with games freezing shortly after starting.  Common audio symptoms, buzzing and bleeping.

The problem was the CompactFlash card.  I replaced it and had no problem.

I knew it was the card because previous to the suspect card I was using yet another card (successfully).

I am currently using a SanDisk (standard) 512 without complaint.  Give another CF card a shot and let us know how you go.

Also, try removing the CF card immediately after the game has loaded.  If there are no crashes, then you're likely to be experiencing the same condition as I was.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I am also using a DS.  'Faulty' CF was a Lexar 512.

hi everybody,

i got my supercard today. it seems that i have the same problem as described above. randomly freezes after the game starts.

supercards is running the latest firmware
i using the latest supercard "programm"
i formated the cf with fat
i use a kingston 256mb cf
i can call chkdsk on the cf
i tested the supercard with the test routine
the game loads correctly
i can switch back to sc menue (till the game freezes)
then the game freezes after a random time (most of the time its making weird sound)

i tryed a few games - only "zelda minish cap" i could play for 5 minutes without crash (then i stopped the test)

reading this forum unfortunately didnt help me :-(

(BTW - this formum seems to be cool   )
