I just got my SC recently and i'm not understanding what you guys mean when you talk about formatting your CF cards. I didn't do anything to my CF and it works fine. Will formatting my CF benefit me in any way? Sorry if this is a dumb question, i'm new to this whole thing.

You would format a CF card is it cannot be read by the supercard, or if you want to reset it to have the most memory possible etc.

By the way kevin, do you happen to use your supercard on a Nintendo DS...?

Before your CF card will work with anything, it must be formatted in a file structure which that device can read.  In order for the Supercard to be able to read the CF, it must be formatted in FAT.

Obviously, your CF card was previously formatted (they do not come formatted, so you must have bought it used or were using it in another device).  Though it appears to work fine at the moment, if it were formatted by another device (like a digital camera), the device did not format it in a pure FAT format.  Therefore, it will work at first, then suddenly stop responding, or certain functions will not work at all.

If you want to ensure proper functioning, just format the card correctly using Windows as described in the sticky.
