Free antivirus program that detects bricker?

I am looking for a Free antivirus program that will detect the bricker.  I have AntiVir for Windows XP and it does not seem to detect the bricker code.

I had it scan the bricker code file in DSLazy and nothing came up.  I know that DSLazy can be used to detect the bricker, but sometimes it falsely warns of the bricker in homebrew.  So, I was wondering if there was a free antivirus program that would do the job?

You can get a free virus scan at:

Its very up to date, I used to use it before buying a package, I can't be certain it would know the bricker but its a good tool if you don't have a package.

Good Luck,

Steve.

AVG Antivirus is great.  It is very light on system resources and from what i recall it detects the bricker.

As far as I know anti virus programmes will pick up the bricker in some valid homebrew just like dslazy. This is due to the "sig" DF released being some of the default devkitpro arm7 binary... there was a post on the devkit webpage re it a while back...

AVG is a bad choice. First, it fails to detect some virus months after most other antivirus can. In addition of that, AVG also give a lot of false positive with some harmless files.

If you want a free antivirus for home user, Avast is a better choice.

i think it works great.  and where did you hear that the updates are so far behind?

Dudu.exe

i agree with raverna.. AVG is a terrible Antivirus..  avast is much more complete... iot is only heavy if you install all funtions ( most of then uncessaries )

socket

you're all crazy...

it's the best i've personally ever used.  it's FAR from terrible.  you're just flaming.  at least "raverna" tried to give reasons, which i happen to disagree with.  saying it is terrible without any reason is just total bs and makes you a fool.

choose whichever you want, i suggest AVG.  it is VERY simple and i get auto updates almost daily.

I used AVG for some time, and I was very happy with it, the only think I didn't like was it's GUI, but I only changed antivirus because I found one that taked less resources (but it's not free, in case you are interested: NOD32) I used avast, and never liked it, it was way too heavy on the system load, and also when I installed it it caused lot's of troubles.
But I haven't tried the latest version.

Thanks Socket, I'm going to go with the AVG.

I had Avast up until a couple of months ago when after an automatic update, it would freeze my system when loading at startup.  I had to quickly hit "ctrl alt delete" and kill the process as soon as it appeared and uninstall.

Also, if anyone has the bricker file and can try this program to see if it detects it that would be cool to know.

Finally, I like what you had to say to DUDU.exe.  Usually after he makes a rude remark (usually to a noob) and then gets told about it (usually by another noob) people reply and defend him saying how great a guy he is, blah, blah, blah.  A jerk is a jerk (or a fool  ) no matter how many posts you have.

Now before the defenders of DUDU bash Socket (or most likely me) don't forget the main reason for my post in bold.

AVG all the way....
Funny though, ive noticed it seems to often be the same 'old names that "shoot from the hip", often , it seems, without any idea at all.......

sorry for the double....
but, well said scootdog....i agree with your last statement wholeheartedly....a zillion posts or not, noone has the right to talk down to, or belittle another member here....dudu is not alone with his nastiness.....my 2c worth...

I didn't want to start any trouble... really... i just thought that basically simply saying "AVG sucks" or whatever is counter productive.  Please don't start a war over this.  Dudu can be really helpful sometimes, i was just a little cranky maybe.

Not hear, but personal experience. I have 3 computers at my workplace that was infected with Brontok (RontokBro) worm at December and one just this January, that virus was found since last November but AVG can't detect it at all so no warning when you click on a file that is infected so not stopping the virus from infecting your computer. Using Avast, all trace of the virus are detected and it'll stop you from being infected since it'll warn you that it is a virus when you click on it.

About false positive detection, also from personal experience, when I was playing Anarchy Online, AVG falsely report virus in AO's text file data. Then it also falsely report of some trojan on some EXE files which if you scan with all other antivirus, it is clean. I even send those files to antivirus company and all of them verified that they're clean.

BTW, I'm not AVG basher, I was actually a fan of AVG, I even bought pro license for all computers at my workplace, then I heard that it let a lot of virus slip through from some online friends, but I still used them until last December when 3 computers are infected at my office.

As for AVG being free, Avast is also free. You just need to register it once a year and you can use it free for personal use. AVG is lightweight and not hard on your computer resource, but that mean nothing if it fails to do the job.
