I still cant change skins in 0.9!!!

I do all you tell here, but still no changes... what can it be?

tobster

is there a limit to the size of the bmp or mp3 file that you 'paste' into the boot mp file? Also I wonder what would happen if I tried to modify the moonshell0.9 boot_mp.nds file using the moonshell0.8 method - would it make a working modified moonshell0.9 BOOT_MP (presumably called BOOT_mp_M3SC.nds) file? I'll try that later when I'm at home, unless someone tells me I'm wasting my time.

aaagh, I must be a real numpty, I can't even re skin moonshell0.8 using the Mithos method. It surely can't be that difficult so I'll describe exactly what I'm doing and then hopefully one of you boffins can spot the error & point me in the right direction. So, this is what I'm doing:
1. create a bitmap in photoshop, dimensions 256 x 192. This turns out to be a 145kb file.
2. rename this file desktop.bmp and use it to replace the same named file in files/.shell
3. run the application WriteFiles_IMFS by double clicking on the icon.  A DOS program seems to run ending up with a prompt that says OK that need pressing.  There are some strange hyroglyphs above it that I can't read. I assume all has gone well so I click the OK button & carry on
4. run the application Create_M3SC(unconfirmed) by double clicking on the icon. Again a DOS program seems to run
5. Copy the newly created BOOT_MP_M3SC.nds file to the CF card
6. Insert CF card in supercard (firmware 1.60) in the DS and it will Boot up straight into the SC/CF card.  Scroll down and select the BOOT_MP_M3SC file and press button a
7. It opens moonshell as usual & plays music, but still with the old background shell.
It seems my BOOT file has not been modified.
I have also tried replacing the startup mp3 file with no success. Well that's it - thanks for bearing with me> Hopefully someone can see a glaring mistake.

Me too. I didn't do anything special. I've changed my background, startup mp3 & global.ini.

Did you guys that have the issues get it from the Infantile site? I d/l-ed it from there, got my personal settings together & ran the bat... no probs.

I can't remember where I got either 0.8 or 0.9 from but I'll go to the infantile site and download their versions.  Did you see any errors in the modification method I used - is there a limit to the size of the bpm file or length of the mp3 clip?

src means source. As the end user, I don't think you're after the source.

tobster

yeah, I think you're right - I downloaded and looked inside - the contents meant nothing to me so it's off to the recyling bin for it. Are you having problems re skinning your moonshell or are you an 'expert'???

If anyone has problems when skinning moonshell 9, just copy your moonsheel folder to a path without longer names (such as c:\moonshell\) and it'll work

tobster

hmm, now that is an interesting theory/observation which I shall try tonight. Presumably this issue of too long file names would also be pertinent whatever the version of moonshell?  Presumably it doesn't help that the downloaded and unzipped file names are soooo long.  Well, they'll be cropped to just moonshell8 & 9 tonight - out with the shears....

To BIG files in files/.shell/

You need to fix this by run one of the codepage bat files in ChangeCodePage directory.

I use cp1250 / Central European Alphabet (Windows)

cp1250.bat
------------- Contains ----
cpxxx.bat 1250 128

This is enough for me, BUT if it is to small you can edit the last number to:

576 or  768

Then you should get more space...

Don't create bitmap images in 24bpp instead use 8bpp that'll change the size from 144 to 45 kb and the error won't happen again. I'm using my pc's wallpaper but it wouldn't be appropriate to post it here. :P

no ive got a moonshell of like about 10 mb or so :P so i dont have to worry about size :P
