-points to the bottom of his guide- I've already listed quite a few settings that fit most of those categories.

Dudu.exe

well im really trying to avoid using any other program then DPGENC, i dont know if im doing something wrong but image form TMPGENC is very creepy... and i really hate to use 2 programs (TMPGENC and then DPGEnc)

Here a good test of the Avatar: The last airbender ( Episode 5 )

Download it here ( 33,1 MB )
-----------------------------------
Sound:
24000 ( good sound and size )
Volume 150%

Video:
W: 256x192
Ratio: Auto detect
bitrate: 160
frames: 10
Brigthness 110%
Blur: 90%
-----------------------------------

Yeah I also tried with TMPGENC like on the tutorial and got really weird looking video. It also stoped working halfway thought the show. I'm experimenting with only DPGENC now and I think that it's possible to get good quality from using only that one. I use divx files to start with.

I only have an issue with the sound, I will try boosting it to 150 to see how that helps. I also like having my videos full screen at 256, the screen is already small enough as it is lol, and most of Koji examples are smaller then 256.... I noticed that different fps doesnt change the file size, so isnt it better to always use 24 fps? so it would be less blurry on fast movements?

I will experiment some more with DPGENC and share it on here once I'm done.

Then use the settings I listed in dpeng. I haven't played around too much with the new dpg so using tmpegenc may no longer be necessary. I'll play around with it in a few days and if the quality has gotten better in it's reencoding, (or even if it's marginally similar) I'll create a second guide for people who fear using 2 programs.

No fear man.  I'm just not sure your technique using TMPGENC is the best, or most efficient.  I'm still experimenting . . . but I seem to be getting better results using a DivX source input.  Actually, lately I seem to be getting best results using a MPEG2 (SVCD) file as a source input.  It looks really good, but the sound gets out of sync sometimes.  I'm trying to figure out the best settings . . .

Pass on your results and I'll do some further testing on them (will give me a good base to work from to see if I can't do anything more. probably not ^_^ But I love to tinker anyways)

Dudu.exe

so how do you think about my test?

im so impressed with this setting that im converting all avatar epsodes!

i use this for all my movies:

Size: 224
Bitrate: 160
Sound: 32000 hz //  (volume +140%)
fps: 24

Works like a charm!

When I encode anime in avi or divx form, all I do is open the DPG encoder, select the episode I need and use these settings:

Check more settings.
PCM Rate: 48000
Volume at whatever you want.
Check Enabled re-encode video stream.
Screen width size: 256
Aspect ratio: auto detect
Bitrate: 256
Frames: 12
Brightness: 110%
blur deep: 95% light

Almost all anime looks fantastic in this form, has no frame or sound skipping, and has never fallen out of sync.  It outputs about a 50-55 MB file, which is not really that big for the quality you get with it.

Here's the third episode of Bleach encoded with these settings:

After trial and error I use the same settings as you. It works great for tv shows cartoon or not and if you want to save a bit of space you can put the PCM rate down to 32000, it brings the file size down quite a bit without loosing much quality on the sound. As for the video settings I use the same.

I agree the above settings seem to work well.  I also recommend using the best possible source input for dpgenc, quality DivX/XviD or even SVCD (480x480 MPEG2). I no longer see real benfit in taking the extra step to scale the source to 256x192. I just let the DPG encoder use DirectMedia layer to perform it's own scaling.

WOW! That looks REAL REAL good man! that bleach episode really looks good man. i thought with 12fps it would not be so smooth...

I know what settings i'm gonna use ;)

thanx!

I've found the perfect method to generate the perfect Moonshell videos.

I use the free SUPER from:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Settings:
Output container: Nintendo DS (dpg)
Width: 256
Height: 192
Frame/sec: 12fps (you can go up to 22fps - but this exceeds the refresh rate of the LCD,
and actually reduces the video quality at a fixed maximum bitrate!)
Video Bitrate: 432kbps (if you go higher than this bitrate, the sound might lag the video)
Options: 44k audio (keep the box unticked)
Audio Bitrate: 128kbps
Aspect: 4:3
Samplerate: 32000
Click on the "O" for "Other Opts", and boost the sound up to 14dB.

I have also updated the Wiki with these settings, see http://www.ds-xtra.com/MoonShell#Converting_movie_files

Pretty big necropost there, but it's relevant and helpful so it's probably alright.

12 fps seems rather low.  I generally get up to 18 fps without any noticeable differences (other than being smoother of course), but then again I use BatchDPG with the settings listed in the Moonshell thread in the FAQ section.  SUPER works fine for easy conversion though, so it's got its uses.
