i havent done the flashme yet, in fact i havent even got DS yet, but i want to find out how if i have to get a superpass1 or superpass 2.

i prefer if you tell me how to check via serial number method rather than "before October 1"

also, will the red/blue ds's work?

The casing isn't really a good indication.

1.- Start NDs with a NDS cart in.
2.- Go to pictochat Room A
3.- Remove the NDS cart, don't turn off before doing it.
4.- Check the color the screens turn to: if it's yellow it is v4 and need passme2, green: v3, blank (NDs crashed): v1, for v2 I don't remember.

Before october first and serial numbers wouldn't tell you if you had version 4 firmware anyways. There are still units being produced even now that have the older firmware installed.

- FW1: DS will freeze, when you remove the cart.
- FW2: Grayish Blue (thanks, tepples)
- FW3: Dark Green (Note! A silver DS bought in MK:DS bundle is most probably NOT installed with FW4!)
- FW4: Yellow
- FW5: Magenta

- FlashME: Dark Green
