I just bought a new ds this week in UK (nintendogs and blue ds) I think it has new firmware as when checking the firmware colour I get  2 purple screens it would not boot with standard passme but works with passme2.
I am a bit nervous to use flashme as I have never done it before and also not sure if it will work on this version.

Anyone else got this new version

Serial starts NEH150 if that helps

cheers bb

if it works with passme2 it should be fine with flashme... either way if its not a firmware it knows about I belive flashme will refuse to install anyway

Yeah, there's been a couple reports on this new firmware over on GBAdev. Since you can run with a PassMe2, if you can provide a firmware dump to the GBAdev guys, it should hasten getting it added to FlashMe.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

Most definitely do NOT install flashme untill a new version of flashme is released, or untill it's confirmed that it works with the older flashme. Last thing you want to do is brick your DS.

This does however seem to confirm V6 firmware which I'd heard a bit of.

Since the current passme 2 takes advantage of a whole in the BIOS versus the firmware (like passme 1 does) it's much harder for nintendo to fix in production (they'd have to create a whole new bios chip. Unlike the old firmware which can simply be overwritten) so it's not surprising that a new firmware didn't patch the passme 2 hole.

They could, however, have altered the firmware enough that installing flashme could cause problems, which is why you should wait for a new version or at least info that it's safe to use the current flashme.

(edit) Going to update the wiki if someone hasn't done it already.

Since Passme2 works, did you try the 'first' part of Flashme, which indicate current firmware release (last line on display), BUT WITHOUT FLASHING (XBXB keys, ....) since it seems unsecure.

No havn't tried that yet - flashme site seems down at the moment anywhere else safe to get it?

The old flashme site is down for good. They moved the site to...

I'd like to help but have no idea how to do that. I'm very new to the ds scene.

I thought it might do that. Loopy is pretty good at making sure people don't destroy their DSes with ease. Basically that's proof that it's a new firmware. Just wait till V7 of flashme is out.

so you guys are saying that all ds's out currently are new firmware?

do you guys know if stores still sell the silver nds with metroid demo?

im gonna get it sometime next week... i hope its not TOO late.

Look, I got mines from Best Buy(USA) a month ago and it's a Blue one sold by itself with serial number NU150..., and when I do the pictochat test I get a green screen.
I was able to put flashme on it(from an SD card trough an MK3) and the application said that original firmware was v3.
I think they still sell it.
Good luck.
Otherwise, just buy at the same time a passme2 device and you won't even notice the difference :)

Actually, no... we didn't say anything like that at all. All we've been discussing is this brand new firmware (v5). It appears as magenta if you do the DS color test.

There are still lots of old firmware DSes out there being sold and produced actually.

Daveychan

I have something to add about new firmwares.

So as not to double post, see my post near the bottom of the first page:

Hope it helps someone.

To anyone who was following this thread, after reading postings by Burkey (Thanks Mate)
I bit the bullet and flashed with the latest flashme v6 even though I got a warning. All went straight forward and appears to be working ok.
