I'm not sure if they CAN update the filmplay software for SC.

They basically took it, and hardware designs from the GBAMP, and theirs is not compatible with the newer MP/ETC software.

Since they never made the software, they can't really make any significant changes to it.

Use moonshell if you have a DS.

pootang

yeah use moonshell 0.9 +

but if you don't have a ds, then i suggest play-yan

i use both and i they supercard sd and  play-yan make the ultimate duo for a ds

i do hope they hack the play-yan one day music movies games all at excellent quality

creepyplaidman

If you want to use play-yan that means you're talking about GBA, and gba requires flashrom to run games, so I don't think it would be very possible to hack the play yan for gba.

Koji

It's not possible. The Play-yan has a HARDWARE MPEG-4 decoder chip. What that means is there is a special chip built into the play-yan that's specifically made for decoding movies.

There is no way to get the quality output of the play yan on the GBA without a flashcard also having the same mpeg decoder chip. Since no flashcart has it, that means it's not possible. Period.

Dudu.exe

but mp4 suport on P.yan wasnt added by firmware update as a response to PSP?

in a way, yes, mp4 support was added by firmware update, but it already supported mpeg-4 (just like koji said) in a .asf container...

in other words, the hardware decoder chip already supported mpeg-4 compression, and the firmware update allowed it to recognize a different file format.

to the hell with play yan, im pretty happy with moonshell 0.9 and dbg hehe, i mean i got a 151MB avi file(prolly xvid encoded) to a 41MB dbg file with great quality, the only problem was sound and image getting out of sync here and then, but noting to serious.
SC CF + 1GB Kingston CF + flashed NDS = a whole lot of fun.

MAD2X

Did you upgrade to 0991 or 0992 yet? because the sound is 100 times better now! It does go out of synch for me ONCE in a while, when that happends I quickly pause and release. Doing so brings the synch bacd to normal, it's no big deal.
ilver NDS w/Flashme V.6
Supercard SD v1.61 firmware
1 GB coreMicro high speed card

onarum

yep, just got test3 now, haven't tested yet though, maybe the new fat driver will make a difference.

This play yan... will it work on a gba sp? I need something good to play mp3 sound (converted of corse).

He doesn't have and doesn't plan to get a DS. Moonshell only runs on DS.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.
