The thought had crossed my mind, but electronics and water don't usually mix well.  My DS is way too precious to me as well.  I have however played my DS at the beach several times.

There is a waterproof case for PSP, maybe you can find one for DS?

Well not really while taking a bath, but I can say every once in a while I take it to the bathroom...some games are relaxing like a good book...
And in the middle of the night the toilet seat might be the most confortable one(expecially for the lighting, but that was the case only with my non back-lited GBA !!)

Same here.

Water proof cases for DS would be hard to make because A: The hinged design means the waterproof case would also have to  the ability to be hinged in some way.

And #2: The case would have to still be waterproof while allowing you to touch the touch panel.

2 never not so easy feats.
