I noticed that if you look at the pictures comparing the 4 screen brightness,  look at the lowest setting, both screen look almost identical, color wise and brightness. Then when you put the DSL brightness up, not only the brightness goes up but so does the colors, meaning that the brighter the screen is, the more the colors comes to life, the red is more red, the blue more blue and the white more white. It's kinda hard to compare with the DS menu only, but it gives you an idea.

This shows that it's very possible that the screens are the same but having the screen much brighter makes everything look way better. Althought I'm sure the DSLite screen has way less glare the DS, I would still like to see my current DS screens with a boost of brightness. Like Koji said depending on the type of light that is used on our DS's, it might be possible to make our old DS's screen brighter, therefore have nicer colors on screen! If you dont beleive me turn your screen monitor brightness down lol. See now the colors are ugly.

Just my 2 cents hehe.

no, on the first photo (lowest brightness) the dslite colours are already more vibrant than the standard ds...

If you guys want to see an example of the better colors and reduced glare, check it out:

Huge difference there, notice the lack of reflection from the camera's flash ... Sweet! I've read that the Lite's LCDs are transmissive whereas the DS had semi-transmissive LCDs, although from what I've seen (pictures) the Lite seems to have a trans-reflective screen, meaning that it is less reflective than a transmissive display (less glare, etc) but also requires more power to backlight. Hence the larger battery.

In any case the screens are definately NOT the same, the Lite's LCDs are physically superior to the DSs ...

Hello
This is geting soo stupid now.
The DSlite display is going to be on par or better then the latest generation of GBA Sp.
If you have any doubt, check your local games store to see the difference...
I understand that maybe in some countries you may not have the privilege to check a unit before you buy it, but here in the USA you can easily walk into a Best Buy or Cicuit City store and see for yourself what the new display looks like.
Why bother to make assumptions about what's gonna be if you already have a tangible examlpe of what things are gonna look like ?

THE NEW DS LITE DISPALY IS A NEW ONE, NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CURRENT GENERATION SCREEN, THERE IS NO GLARE BECAUSE THE SCREEN IS NOT SUPPOSED TO REFLECT ANY LIGHT, IN FACT THE LOWEST BRIGHTNESS SETTING CANNOT EVEN BE OFF, BECAUSE YOU WOULDNT SEE SHIT!!!

Just do yourself a favor and check the GBASP with the new display, then come back and tell me if you truely believe that with a software hack the standard DS can remotely look like the DS Lite!
This is all bull shit.
if you dont want to spend some extra cash just be happy to be a DS owner, but do us a favor, stop speculating about what you don't know and try to wait patiently untill some of your friends will get the new system and will show you what it's all about.
Facts, we want facts, not merely assumptions.
The DS Lite Rocks!!!

well yha you got a piont there but how can me be sure its a new display ?
becouse if its not a new display wouldn't it be able to hack our old ds do the brightness controll well be able work to ?

but ok i think light is pritty cool for the size and ofcouserse the screen and stylus tat stylus wornt fit in this ds :P

secont its a shame that the gba cards have 1 cm or less stickout thats what i hate :(

sneef

wow.  that was a lot of shouting, q_armando... sheesh

q_armando

Sorry , I posted my earlier post last night when I came home after being out drinking with my buddies.
I was a little "loose" at the best.
My apologies.
You are absolutely right it's just a matter of more light.
How can I be sure ? I am not, and neither are you, because from those pictures it's tough to make a comparison.
It's all speculaton at this point, and it ain't worth talking about it anymore.
I only think that the GBA SP improved screen looks great, and it would make sense for the DS to have such a newer display now as well.
If it doesn't, well it's not worth buying it, that's why i will wait to see it in person before I decide to get it.
Sorry about the shouting.
But one question though, has anybody seen the latest generation of GBA SP or am I the only one here ?

Cyprien Walker

hmm well allright if your sure its the brightness cant we hack our ds to do the same thing or issnt this light able to ?

sneef

no you arent' the only one.  I own the new SP, and the micro.. and it is my opinion that the ds lite will have a similar screen.  not just brighter, but more vibrant colours, and less reflective.

I wrote I am not sure dude....
