Would the DS lite screen drain the battery more as the brigthness goes up?  It probably does, but i just want to get some opinions

m2pt5

They've stated that the different brightness levels change the battery life - from ~6 hours on max brightness to ~15 hours on the lowest setting.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

yea i thought so.....one more question though:

what equivalent brightness does the current ds have to the ds lite?

Probably highest or second highest.

Also know that the "minimum" setting is the backlight turned off. You can probably gain a couple hours of battery life turning off the screen on the regular DS as well.

really? it's highest right now?  i thought it would have an even brighter screen..... or am i missing something?

If I remember correctly, the DS is supposed to be around the second-highest setting on the Lite. I know the Lite's highest setting is brighter.

I heard someone say on another post that maybe the new screen brightness settings is in the firmware, and maybe once the DS lite comes out we can have a new flashme with the option to turn up the brightness on the current DS. Is this just speculations or based on facts? Do you think something like this would actually be possible? Are the screens on the DS lite the same as the ones on the old DS but only brighter through firmware??
ilver NDS w/Flashme V.6
Supercard SD v1.61 firmware

The screens are probably identical. The are manufactured by the same company anyways. Depending on what type of light is used for the backing of the screens, it may be possible.

sneef

the screens are not the same as the current DS screens.  They are not only supposed to be brigher in terms of the backlight, but they are also supposed to be more vibrant and clear.

they may be made by the same manufacturer, but they are most likely an improved screen, not just an extra brightness setting.

the only things that bother me bout DS Lite is the button replacement

Ah!!!!
Finally, somebody with a reasonable statemant.
This is what I have been trying to say many times, everybody keeps on thinking too litterally of a " brighter display ".
That does not mean that the display is just brighter , it means it's a new display with more vibrant colors and a better definition.
It's so stupid when people says that a new flashme could hack the current DS to provide a brighter image.
I know exactly what the new display looks like, in fact I have one.
It's the new kind that was introduced with the GBA Micro and now also on the GBA SP.
It's really good. In fact is so good that yesterday I went to buy a new SP just because of the better display, even though I already have a GBA and a DS.
But you see the new SP also says on the box" now with a brighter backlit screen" but it's not just about brightness.
In fact , GBA games look so good now, and the colors are so vibrant that every time a switch my DS on it turnes me off, because if you compare the 2, clearly the new SP one wins hands down. It looks like that fancy PSP screen in terms og colors and contrast, maybe even better.
The DS display it's not only less bright, but there is also some glare that you can clearly see whenever you incline the point of view.
The new SP looks gorgeus from any angle and there is no reflection coming from the back of the screen.
I am 99.9% sure that the DS lite display will look just the same, because this is the only technology Nintendo is using ever since the GBA micro was introduced.
If you don't beleave me, just check your local store for the last generation of GBA SP.
So please stop those silly comments about the amount of brightness,it really isn't the whole point.
It's just a new display, and if you see how beautifull it is, you will never go back to the old one. In fact now, I am playing only GBA games(more than ever) until the DS lite hits the scene....

BTW I am sorry if I sound histerical, but I can't take it anymore because every time I read comments about the new DS lite people seem to miss the vital  point.

the new buttons look excellent!  they seem to be the exact same buttons used on the micro, which are really really nice to play on.  they feel much higher quality than the current DS buttons.. or did you mean the new position of the start/select buttons?

by the way, i like your name "blebekblebek"  it sounds so cool to say it out loud.. like a video game sound effect...

my sister has the new GBA SP and I have to agree with q_armando it is beautifull  :D
Supercard SD, Sandisk 2 GB, AData  256 MB

i'm not talking the BUTTON
but placement of the button
they put POWER on the right side (you can easily turn it off if you don;t realize it)
and start/select button on the bottom (if you have long/big hand that would be troubled)

yeah i love my name... hehehehe

AHHHHHHH I GET IT!!!!!!!!!  thank you thank you.  NOW it makes sense why people like the new display.  THANK YOU for the great explanation....because i've been sucked into the thinking it's "brighter" too.    (i mean honestly i have no problem with the brightness of the current ds already.....it's not like i can't see it).

now i REALLY want the new DS LITE
