i've tried poffpadd by poffy(dcemu.co.uk)...

the letter rocognisation system it is very good and fst, you can write down notes very well..

but as all first versions  is still doesn't work with sc sd..

it works in SC SD, just use dsbuild.exe and rename the ds.gba file into gba.nds

I tested it out.

But can it save to the SD card?

yes it works on sc sd....but the problem is that it cannot save on sc sd...however the version worls well you dont need to build with dsbuild (i use latest romman firmware)
