What kind of TV service do you have?  Cable, satellite, ...etc?

you wouldn't want to record TV onto that machine.  It has BNC inputs for security cameras, but no audio inputs.  sure, you could rig it with some other equipment, and take your final video and audio recordings, mux them with some authoring/editing tools and have an interleaved audio/video file, but it would be very pointless.

The video format is mjpeg (motion-jpeg), and the resolution is not standard...

basically its a security cam recorder.  motion-activated, 4 cams to a screen, etc...

yes thiv DVR  it's only useful to rec security cameras input....
to rec for TV's (my sisytem is PAL) i have a woderful  MP4 recorder(buyed in china-- www.digilife.com.cn)) that rec in .asf format, but it is limited only to 1 Gygabyte sd card... but the prices there are extremely low...mine cost only 78 USD , and it is nothing compared to the same ARCHOS mp4 viewer/recorders that have a price range that goes from 300  TO 500 euros
