Do a search on google for gba afterburner. There are many places that still sell afterburner kits and there are also some cheaper generic kits. I modded my original GBA and its really great.

Yeah, I had my old GBA with an afterburner, it was great :)
Unfortunately it was stolen, and I had to buy a SP. But I still miss my old GBA.
Maybe at ebay?

Yeah I had my GBA with afterburner, but after I got the latest model of the SP(backlit) I decided to remove the afterburner(looked really horrible in comparison with the new SP) and also changed the shell, because the old one was al creaked due to the modification necessary to fit the afterburner in it.
Now I have what looks like a brand new GBA(not SP) and a spare afterburner kit.
But it's OK, I guess I will keep the old GBA for nostalgic purposes only....

Is the results of Afterburner any close to GBA SP ? If it is, I think you shouldn't have taken it out because I like GBA more than SP because of the shape. but again it's your choice  :)

Afterburner was a system that works, but it was never as good as the old model SP, let alone the second model SP with the backlit screen.

Exactly my point,
since I have the second model of the SP, the original GBA with an afterburner has no longer a purpose.
But by removing it, and changing the shell, I have a brand new GBA to be taken outdoor on a sunny day!!!
I was thinking of trying to modify the backlit SP display to make it fit in the GBA, I was just curious to see the results.
But another issue came up, the buttons and the D-pad are much better and more responsive on the SP, so basically it's only the shape of the GBA that attracs me, but clearly the SP it's all in all a better system.

Isn't it cheaper to buy a SP now instead of an Afterburner kit ?

Afterburner is released way before SP..
