Superpass2 vs. Passkey2... for DS Lite?

OK. If I understand this... the Superpass2 and the Passkey2 are virtually the same thing... or atleast do the same thing. My question is... which is better for the DS Lite? I know that the Superpass2 sticks out the exact same way as the Superpass1, but the Passkey2 seems to be deisgned differently (like the DS cart would be facing down instead of up). Which works the best for the DS Lite?

I have yet to see any pictures of the Passkey2 inside a DS or DS Lite.

Is there something better for the DS Lite that I do not know about?

sneef

yes. there is.  I have the enamel navy DS Lite, and the superpass 2 looked awful, and was not even fitting properly in the slot (too thick).  I got a passme 2-z and it looks a lot better, and fits nicely.

there are a couple of new products coming out that are the same length as a DS cart, but the 2-z is the smallest for now.  Passkey 2 is better than superpass 2 if you can't get a passme 2-z.  it wraps around the back, and fits better in the slot.

passme 2-z fully inserted into the ds lite

Where can I get my hands on a Passme 2-z? Is it compatible with all th enew games too?

sneef

it's compatible with everything.  it has the rom chip of a real DS game soldered to it's PCB.  so you don't need to program it, because it's already programmed to the game that is in it.

It's a bit expensive due to the fact that it has a commercial game in it.  I got mine for about 40 dollars on ebay.  at the moment, the seller I got it from does not have any for auction.  you could try searching for passme 2-z on google.. there were a couple sites that had it at some point.

moviecouple

So barring the passme 2-z... go with the Passkey2 because it fits better in the DS Lite... as opposed to the Superpasss2?

Koji

Honestly? It really shouldn't matter. You probably won't be using a passme2 on a regular basis. You'll probably use it to install flashme and then put it somewhere where you'll never use it again.

sneef

it does matter.  moviecouple was asking about DSlite.  there isn't a flashme for dslite yet, and as you can see in the general forum, some people are having a hell of a time flashing their lites.  that's why I'm recommending a good passme2 clone, that is easy to carry around, and won't damage the DS slot with heavy use.

Until there is a Flashme Lite... I am going to have to use the Passme device. I just wanted to know what was the most compatible with the DS Lite.

Sneef,

You would highly recommend the Passme2-Z? Works great?

sneef

i would highly recommend it until flashme for DS Lite comes out.  it's easy to use, and more importantly for me, easy to store. fits right into the case i use for my dslite.

m3/g6 are about to release a passme2 device that is the SAME size as a DS cart.  the passme 2-z is about 1cm longer (maybe less)..

but for now, yes, i would recommend the passme 2-z if you aren't flashing your firmware yet.  obviously if you were gonna use flashme, it wouldnt matter at all.

Looks like I'll get one. Found it for about $45. Just wanted to make sure it ran all games... especially Mario Kart, Lost In Blue, Metroid Prime Hunter

Sneef,

I have the very first Passme2 that came out by Natrium. I have to use the IQSRAM to boot up into the Supercard menu.

My question is... that with the Passme2-Z... do you still use the IQSRAM, or just stick the Passme2-Z into the NDS slot and the SC menu automatically comes up?

sneef

with supercard, you still have to put the .gba and .sav file that match the game that is soldered into the passme 2-z.  for instance, mine is AVJJ (viewtiful joe scratch), so i still have to run avjj-0.gba, then fully insert the passme 2-z, and reboot.

of course, you can reboot after playing a game, straight back into the supercard menu.

with my m3 sd slim, i don't have to do all that, because it stores the sav file in sram. (i think it must be battery-backed or something, haven't really read up on it)

but i use my supercard more often.  and now that "Alite" has come out, I may just flash my lite, since supercard is what I'm usually using.

moviecouple

So you still have to use the IQSRAM essentially.

What is "Alite"?

sneef

Alite is a small app for supercard that allows you to adjust the backlight on a Flashme'd DS Lite.  you can adjust the brightness in Alite, then exit back to the supercard menu and start the desired game/app.

if only there was a way to adjust the backlight for original games, i would flash my lite.

search "alite" in these forums.  it's been linked to.
