Mario Kart DS, Rain & Supercard Rom

I'm trying to take the save off my original card and use it with the Mario kart Rom on the Supercard. Both are the european version. I can boot up Rain r14 and backup the eeprom to a .sav file. When I rename this .sav file however to the same name as the Mario Kart DS rom, the game running on supercard does not recognise the save file and just starts from the beginning. Can anyone help me out here. What am I supposed to do? Is it possible to do this with Mario Kart DS?

Make sure the ROM and real game region match, and make sure you are including the .nds part in the save file. (i.e. "Mario Kart DS (E).nds.dsq" needs "Mario Kart DS (E).nds.sav", not "Mario Kart DS (E).sav".)
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

Nope, doesn't work. I checked again to make sure it was the European version Cart I had and it is. I've spelled the .sav file correctly along with the preceeding .nds. I know that the save I have is a valid as I restored the DS card from a prior save. I've tried the save with the rom about five times now and no luck. Anyone else had any problems with mario kart.

Did you repatch the ROM to use the save on the SD or CF?

Ya, I did. Good thought btw. It's the SD version just clarify things. I took the save directly from what rain produced. Do I have to convert it or anything? It's bizarre.

Ok, this gets even stranger. I tried patching the game again and putting it on my sd card. Both versions are on my sd card. One is spelled "Mario Kart DS (E).nds.dsq" the other "0201 - Mario Kart DS (E)(Spluff).nds.dsq". Guess what, the later works. I ran the four files (.sav included) through a md5summer and it tell me that both versions are exactly the same. I then deleted the old version of the rom and renamed the newly patched rom and .sav to the old name (just for kicks) and it now has stopped working. Is there something i'm missing here. Is there an option in the Supercard that i'm not aware of. Something that maybe stores a certain .sav file in memory?

Yes, in fact there is something wrong with the way i've spelled it. I've now taken the newly patched rom that I renamed from the working spelling of "0201 - Mario Kart DS (E)(Spluff).nds.dsq" to the not working spelling of "Mario Kart DS (E).nds.dsq" to the now working spelling of "Mario Kart - DS (E).nds.dsq" (notice the hyphen). Problem solved as far as i'm concerned but i'd love to know the reason for this. Anyone got any ideas? Let me confirm though, the .sav file was ALWAYS renamed to the corresponding .dsq name.

I don't know, but it happened to me once before too. Perhaps if your save fails to load once, SuperCard just assumes that your file doesn't need a save until it has been modified. This happened to me with SNES DS and Super Metroid, and I'd bet if you named your ROM and save back to what it was before, it would work since you still changed it to something else beforehand.
