You'll have to rename the .ds.gba in .nds and put it without patching it on your CF/SD.

EDIT: You indeed have to use the ds.gba version, as the .nds version doesn't work

Yep.
The .nds file won't work.
Download the file with .ds.gba extension and rename it in .nds.

It's an usual technique to apply with homebrews releases.
