A friend just got a new Supercard and it worked ok out of the box.  It stopped working after I tried to update his firmware to 1.61

Now I get a white screen after the Gameboy title screen. No SC menu.

If I start and hold L + R, the SRAM and SDRAM tests fine but I get the following error:

If I clear the SD card of everything but the 1.61 update.bin, the update tries to run, shows blank for old version, and lets me run it.  After going to 100% the screen goes white again and nothing...

What is this error?  Is there any way for me to recover from this?
