newbie question:

how can i play snes/nes games on my DS using my supercard?

ZeroMidget

nes put on the supercard, autoplay

snes not worth the trouble/slowdowns/etc.

fischju

snes ds works with alot of games, i love playing Super R-Type on it
you can also use the gba version with a flashcard

DimensionT

I have yet to see ANY Snes game have slow down when used on SnesDS (which isn't as much as I can say for the PSP Snes emulator), and I don't see how the process is troublesome in any way (add Snes rom(s), click build, flash, have fun.

The only issues is save support and compatibility.  Though, if you want to save you can just switch over to SnesAdvance (which is also more compatible, but lacks sound and speed.)  But for shooting games and stuff like Megaman w/ passwords, SnesDS is perfect.

Flubba's site was down for some reason, so here's another site to download SnesDS (let me know if you need help getting it to work):

The compatibility list so far (I'll post a list of games I've found that work good if you like):

Don't expect the DS to run Sega games any time soon.  NES and Snes runs on the DS's graphics processor because they're all set up rather similar (hence the full speed).  I doubt this can be done with Sega as it's totally different.  There's one DS Sega emu out that I know of, but it runs completely on CPU (1fps, yey!) and not worth the time.

I guess I should've been more specific when saying Sega as I meant the Genesis, not the Sega Master System :).  SMS Advance works great for Master System games, and Game Gear games for that matter.

Sorry about the mix up.

Alright DimentionT... I'll give you a five second head start to run before I beat you around the head with my psp.

SnesDS I decided to give a try the other day... and I laughed. It played Mario World to an extent, without slowdown or whatever... but my god... never talk down the psp's emulation capabilities in favour of the ds'es again.

I use TYL on my psp... and it does what no other handheld in the world does. Playable SNES emu, with sound, no graphical problems and perfect compatability. I'd say the emu itself was perfect, but it does need a frameskip of 1. The genesis is the same... and incredibly, by the end of this year... playable n64 and psx emu... and maybe sega cd. So do NOT ever put down a fantastic emulator, just because it's not as much of an achievement as running a few games with tinny sound and torn graphics on a comparatively underpowered device.

My conclusion on the DS's emulation capabilities with supercard... well... lets say alot of work needs to be done. NesDS isn't compatible with supercard CF, which pisses me off, because I don't like getting half the screen cut off with pocketnes. Right now I'm loading several scummvm games onto my ds, and I'll let you all know how good that is. I can bet it'll be a good bit better than having to move the mouse with the analog stick on psp tho. I loved scumm on my zodiac.... scumm+touchscreen=warm, fuzzy goodness.

I'll be trying out some more ds emus over the next few days. I'd rather prefer my ds to hold all my nes, gb, gbc, sms and gg roms... but sofar I've had nothing but bad experiences. Goomba Color is already loaded onto supercard... but my god... the lack of savestate and proper save support kills it. the version of drsms included also sucks too. I'm not putting down the ds or supercard here btw... nor foisting my opinion on anyone. Just trying to be truthful.

Edit: ScummDS works brilliantly :D The controls are awfully confusing though.

Just get at GP2x, plays most of them. No N64 or GBA but i have a DS and a Micro for GBA and a PC for N64. There is a PSX emu for it although it does need a lot for work still and may never run playable but for a cheap hand held that also plays movies, MP3's and ebooks as atandard is a bit fab in my book!!!!

kyus

right fattybumbum... now you're for it.

The GP2X has pretty much been rendered useless since psp homebrew became widely used. Why did you even suggest buying one when the psp has software that hammers those functions? For emulators, not one gp32 emu can compare to the psp variation apart from the megadrive emu, PSP has a better screen for movies, bookr can read ebooks in pdf format and you can now buy a psp for less than a gp32 would cost!! The one function that rocks about gp32 is the tv out I guess... it's really something special. It's not touch screen either.

Ah... I bought a "broken" zod 2 from ebay... cost me less than £30 and I got tons of stuff with it. All I did was buy a new universal adaptor set... and bang... the thing's as good as new. I used it for a few months.. till the 1.50 psp firmware was hacked, and I sold the zod for... get this... £320. Bought my psp 1.50 from japan for £140, and kept the rest of the money in my little psp fund. Since then I've bought 3 2gb sony sticks... one of which ended up fake, but still works perfectly, and I'm looking into buying the 4gb card. 10gb of storage for my psp :P Believe me, I'll be needing it later :P

My son has a PSP, can't say I think its that brilliant since he had to upgrade to 2.6 to play his games. I know that someone somewhere will crack the PSP so it can paly all backups, but the 2x is simple and and Open system not locked by its creators thats whay pi**es my off about the PSP. You like it so fair play but I LURVE mt 2x.......bit of MI3 at work today!!!!!

@ Kyus:

Seriously dude, no one asked about your PSP.

I know that emulation on the PSP is better then the DS (as I own one too), but that's no where near the point.  Some people don't own PSP's, and would like to have the Snes run on THEIR system.  The fact that you're telling them that SnesDS is laughable shows some ignorance.

Are you sure you're using the version that supports the SnesAdvance.dat file? http://www.cs.utah.edu/~tew/snesDS/ third one down, 12-8-2005 (I think that's the right one).  The .dat file has masses of graphic fixes for games with garbled backrounds and such.  It should be on the front page of the SnesAdvance website I posted earlier, or maybe in the forums.  Newer versions of SnesDS don't support it for some reason, so compatibility kind of dropped off.

can you tell me how to save when i'm done playing? coz i'm playing metal gear and it seems it failed to save when i try play it again, thanx

stingray1059

thanks , i got my nes , gbc and gba games working.

question: can i play gbc/nes/gba games on full screen?

clickbile

Yeah, Kyus, ANYONE knows that the PSP is better for emulation than the DS. Stating the obvious only makes you look obnoxious. Please understand that some of us would prefer not to buy a PSP for $250 and find a lot of enjoyment in squeezing all we can out of our little DSes. Thanks.

rocky

I hate the psp  .  My brother always talks about how good they are.  I mean yea of course your going to be able to play n64 games on it because it has a 222mhz processor and the comunity is like 50 times the size compared to the gba/nds. And their comunity is  realy bad
