Is there any way to make DS homebrew using Java instead of C++?

Nope. Theres not likely to be either. If they do it will be slow and missing a lot of the API. Ive recently been making the switch from Java to CPP and its hard at first (just finding why things are doing what there doing) but it gets easier.

i think this could be possible in future, because java want's to go to open source, so the java runtime could be compiled and configured for use on a nds maybe?

they already ported lua which is also an interpreted rather than compiled language like java
