Supercard Mini SD - File Corruption

Ok you will have to bare with me on this on.

I just got my SuperCard Mini SD and a Silicon Power 1GB Mini SD card.

The problem is when I have more than around 250mb - 300mb of data moved over to the card. It verifies just fine on the PC until I power it up in the SUperCard where I get strange ascii file names and nothing will loadup. If after that I insert the card back into my PC, the file system has been corrupted, card says it is almost full say 970mb even though I know there is around of 300mb of data on it.

I don't have another mini-sd of this kinda size to test it with, and so far I have only tested it with NDS roms.

Anyone else has this issue...is it media related and if so what brand is a better match to the supercard?

Thanks in advance

Put your files in folders, not the root directory. Problem solved.

FAT has a limitation on the number of files in the root directory (512, I think) and filenames longer than 8.3 take up multiple entries. Putting your files in folders avoids this problem.

Edit: Also make sure the card is formatted in FAT, not FAT32.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

Well I have tried it both ways in a folder and in root.

I am no where near the limit file wise I think I had around 16 files when it started to happen.

I thought perhaps it was file name related but doesn't appear to be.

The supercard complains if you have the format Fat32, so this is all using FAT.

Any other ideas?

Ok now this is getting really odd now.

So I tried to spread the roms in different folders - the same corruption happens.

I checked the mini sd card with HD Tune, comes up just fine not a single error.

Once I have tried to use the card in the supercard and the corruption thing has happened, I get multiple weird ascii files and folders happening and I can delete one of them. So at that point I just reformat.

All of the roms work just fine if I only copy over 5 of them, any 5 but if I go to 6 it corrupts.

anyone?

Unbelievable. I'm getting the EXACT same problem with my Supercard MiniSD.

I'm starting to think it's definitely a dodgy mini SD card, specifically with FAT. I also cannot go over 300mb without getting the write errors and the strange ascii files.

I can load it till it is full when I format the card in FAT32, with no errors at all.
Unfortunately the supercard doesn't read FAT32, so great load of help that is.

Can I ask where you got your mini sd card from? Mine was off ebay, a Sandisk. The more I google it, it seems the good quality cards are made in Japan, and the shoddy ones in Taiwan. It appears I may have gotten a Taiwanese version.

Edit: Ok, Sandisk replied to my photos of the card, and told me it's a counterfeit. Makes sense. Now I'll attempt to get some of my money back.

Chiliblue

Hope you got some money back but I don't think that was your problem.

I now have too mini sd cards.. one is a kingston the other is some other brand, both legit. The same corruption thing was happening on both.

I was using firmware 1.62 - I then downgraded to 1.61 and the problem has gone away!!!

Don't know if it was the firmware but both cards now work just fine.

I tried using my camera as a (really slow) card reader. No corruption whatsoever. Looks my normal card reader was screwing up all the cards, and Sandisk are idiots.

Hi,

I got the same problem with my mini sd (kingmax, 1gb)...once I put more than a few games on there, weird characters show up once I put it in the DS and I end up having to reformat (FAT, obviously)...

Has anyone else tried downgrading to 1.61? how did that work out for you? Any other solutions (so putting it in different folders doesn't work?)?

Is this a problem related to the SD cards of the SuperCard Mini SD?

Any help would be deeply appreciated...

Thanks!

my SD card is just fine , playing mp3, 200mb movies under moonshell
so there is nothing wrong with my sd ...what is not running is SC Patched NDS and GBA, and i have also crashes in SC NES emu.
homebrew is running perfectly...
the problem is in the SC firmware ..bad fat driver compatibility
