Quote from: "bitblt"This is not a warez site.  How absurd.  I don't see a single link to ROMZ or copyright material.  I don't think I act "holier than thou", I just try to give good advice.  If you void your warranty and then return your DS, it's wrong.  A better solution would be to read these forums and understand what you are doing first.  If you fuck up, then fix it.  The DS light is very easy to fix, no soldering required.

There - we completely agree!  It isn't like this is brain surgery - but since the general public seem to have some personal aversion to READING and exhibit the Generation Gimmie attitude, it seems to be problematic for some :)

The resources to assist you BEFORE your brick it (and even after) are ASTOUNDING and staggering in numbers.  Tons of people like bitbit (and to a lesser degree, myself :) ) are like Time Life operators - standing by to take your order right here.  There is really no excuse for botching the job now that everyone should be educated on things.

As for this being a warez site - you have to look at it this way (here goes my chances of ever getting a star ...):  At least here in the USA, there is NO LEGAL way to use the Supercard.  The information found on this forum assists people in violating the DMCA.  I'm SURE somewhere in the Patriot Act, we could ALL be detained and shot for these posts (welcome to Amerika).  You have to let your conscience be your guide.

Personally, I ACTUALLY use the Supercard for LEGITIMATE purposes (despite the use of the card is illegal in itself because you have to break the law to access it) - I own every game I have on there and I do occassionally use it to check out a new title to make sure my ass isn't fleeced (cough Marvel Rise of the Imperfects cough cough).  Even the dude at Gamestop asked me why I buy games when I have a Supercard.

My conscience is clear.

Quote from: "Madrigal"I have no idea what you are going on about with the SN. It's not like I'm returning a counterfiet DS to Wallmart and I originally bought it at Wallmart anyway, so so what if they check the SN?

True, if you return the same DS within 30 days to the same WalMart then it's not as bad. (the warranty is still void) I was referring to buying a DSlite from Japan, "bricking" it, then trying to exchange it for a new one at WalMart next week.  Not a good idea, even if the poor employees are under paid and don't give a shit.  Yes, I test roms for educational purposes   so I'm not squeaky clean.  I do buy games my daughter and I enjoy.  Really.  I'm actually more interested in homebrew and DS add-ons, I guess because I'm a Software Engineer.

Well my DS isn't exactly new, it's about 6 months old, but it's in perfect shape other than the blown fuse. No scratches, ect.. Again I know it's not exactly the nicest thing to do, but this is Wallmart, not some little mom and pop store. Most likely they won't even send it back to Nintendo. It will just be tossed in the garbage and written off. I know people that have worked at Wallmart and I have worked a big stores like that and it would surprise you to see the ammount of returns they just throw out without even checking or sending for refurbishing.

About the Japanese Lite, I agree with you that would just be dumb. I was talking about if I got a Lite at Wallmart and took it home and accidentally bricked it, I would take it back the same or next day to exchange it for a new one

Quote from: "darkuni"For those with guilty consciences, allow me to paint you a picture.  This is no means justification for theft - but by altering your DS you're already breaking the DMCA law here in the USA - and using a Supercard (doesn't matter if you own the card - you are NOT allowed 'archival backups' of firmware)
That actually is not the case according to the US Supreme court descrions. The only reason people continue to site this is because the US Supreme court has yet to take up this law, though if they go by precident having a backup for personal use is not illegal.

I'd have to do a little research to remove this fallacy ...

Firm media (cartridges for example) are not part of the "archival backup" law.  That only covered things destructive (like floppy disks).

Last I HEARD, the DMCA removed ALL rights to backups.  I could look it up if anyone was really interested. :)
