ok, enough of that.
I personally think that it is nearly impossible to hack.
Developers on the dslinux project(www.dslinux.org) have spent ages trying to get it to work.
At one point they were able to make the memory writable but they weren't able to sync the data...
I hope It'll work but there are some things that are incredibly hard.
Like getting pokemon to read the time from the DS internal clock. :P

Why do you think it'll be impossible to hack? No one has even tried yet because it hasn't hit the streets. All we need it time, it'll get hacked.

Nintendo DS Browser Does not support:
Flash
Animated Picture File (MAY be Movie Files -makes more sense-)
Audio Files
PDF File
In addition to anything else that needs plugins (aka Shockwave, Java, etc.)

Edit: Also, the RAM expansion is necessary they say. Whether it won't start without it or webpages just load very very bad to the point of being unreadable they didn't say.

Also, the Parent Protection is just a proxy you set up in the DS Browser Options (yes it supports proxies), you can also password protect the browser so the child can't just turn it on and go, they have to ask the parent to input the password. I don't know how the proxy settings are protected, I'd just turn the proxy off to bypass the restrictions.

Anyone know if this browser has tabs? Or does it only view one page at a time?

Actually, thank GOD it doesn't support those things.  most of them are the BANE of the web ANYWAY.  Good riddance.  Besides, if it played Flash games, it could impair Nintendo's control of the machine.  Don't see that happening.

I can see RAM being required thanks to the bulky ass websites people feel they just HAVE to make.  Nothing like a GIANT ASS 500k, 1024x200 pixel banner along with improperly scaled graphics (you know, 800x600 pictures resized in HTML to 200x150) and 200k background images to really make a website efficient on a 4MB portable, right? :)

Proxy support is nice.  I'm not sure how well you can support multiple browsers with limited RAM, but who knows.

any news on this? its coming out in 5 days...
hope it works on SC, anybody got an idea?

btw-
I've emailed em twice asking if the browser work incase i "lost the gba cartridge" :P
I haven't gotten a response to both, and it was a while back. (3 weeks)

I'm assuming they don't want to answer that because if it does work, then
they don't want us to know so we would pre-order it instead of waiting to find out
if it works in a flashcart.

what do you think? have you emailed?

Well I emailed them cats a while ago asking them to send me more info on the browser. Never did hear back from them. Kinda lame since on their website it says to send an email to request information

I read on their website somewhere that it will not work with out the gba ram cart

Thundrestrike

well i hope you read wrong...

but even if you are right, im almost completely sure that some hackers will make it work on a flashcart ;)

Hey, can't the ram thing be implemented with Supercard's ram with the "GBA Linkage" function?  Something along those lines?

rocky

Yea it should work using the supercard ram but you will prabaly need some hacking

AnalogMan

The browser will not operate without the cartridge. For this reason I hope they sell it seperate. Also, it's only a matter of time before someone patches it to remove the GBA 'check' and trick it into thinking it's there when it's not.

At which point it will no longer work (as it wants to write or read from the RAM and can't).
Depending on how the RAM extention is made, maybe just maybe the supercards RAM could be used.
But don't hope on it, chances are it won't.
Now if you would have the source, that is a different matter.

dim

I've pre-ordered it £26, free shipping from Lik-Sang, why wait for it to be homebrew when i can have a snazzy working netbrowser on my DS by the end of July :P

kennyboy

actually i do hope it will not work without the ram cart. Maybe then people would shell out some cash for something really useful. How hard would it be to bring a small ram cart along with your ds?

Uh, I hope they do crack it. I am planning on buying this shit when it hits US shores but for now, I wanna give it a trial run. What's the harm in that?  8)
