For me at least I think the old DS had better buttons and d-pad. I've only had the Lite for 3 days but still, I'm not feeling the love right now (control wise).

well heres what i tihink. i love th ds lite but somehow or sometimes i just feel like returning back and getting an old ds with firmware 5 for that i have brightness levels just like the ds lite. the reason is that the d pad is less responsive, mooshell with mp3 in the old ds was a miracle ans sounde great :D, mp3 with ds lite suck  :( . movies have  a lot of shadowing in parts where there is not i lot of bright colors. however, i dont think i can return it because just to sexy and beautiful  .

you can't really compare the Lite's brightness to a FW5's brightness...  The Lite is still WAY better screenwise!  I've compared both and the FW5 on highest brightness kinda looks like it's gonna damage the screen

with the Lite it's just rite

I definitely like the DS Lite a lot better, on the old DS, I had problems using the X & A buttons comfortably.

But it does feel like the D-pad is not as nice of quality as the old DS, but I haven't found it to be a problem either. I play Tetris DS just fine (probably better, due to the weight reduction, I can play for longer periods of time) although I haven't tried out Metriod DS yet. The old DS absolutely looks it can take more of a beating.

I agree.  The beautiful screens and sleek look of the NDSL more than compensate for any button control issues.

I can't wait to get a DSL , then I can actually test out multiplayer without gettin a bud to come over

I beat all the high scores I set on Nanostray with the DS Phat on my Lite, so it works fine for me.   8)

So are OGDS's buttons.

Yeah it sure sucks to have been enjoying my DS for a year and a half straight...I should totally just kill myself right now because I've had way too much fun since 2004 starting with backlit Maximum Velocity with better button handling and Mario64DS.
Obviously my DS will never be able to live up to the fun I've had with it regardless of the fact I can still play those games and so many more that have already become available on the platform and the titles in the future that will come to it. Your move, pawn.

I don't know,
somehow the d-pad feels a little cheaper then on previous uinits.
In fact you can easily tell that it's less firm in its place and you have to puch it all the way down to make contact.
I must admit I prefer the d-pad and the a&b buttons on my GBA SP.
I think they are the best quality whise.
The phat DS has somehow too small buttons and the d-pad is to flat for me, and on the DSL all the buttons are overall less firm in place.
You would think that a company would keep on improving things or at least don't fix what it ain't broken, so I am a tiny little bit disappointed.
But the overall look and weight of the DSL make it up more then enough to justify the purchase.
