I'm just interested in hearing people's opinions on how they like the DS Lite's D-Pad, buttons, shoulder buttons etc.

These components feel somewhat off, especially when playing, say a frantic Tetris duel.  I haven't managed to beat my girlfriend since I use the Lite.  Without the clickyness of the Phat DS's controls you lose the feeling for the buttons. And the D-Pad feels a little inaccurate (maybe because it's so tiny?)  While I might get used to this over time it seems like s step back control-wise from the old DS.

I think there can be no question about the improvement made to the screen, the overal size of the unit, perfectly tight closing shell, design, etc...  *but* something nags me about the handling  :?

I think everything about this system is perfect.  I didnt realy like the old buttons my figures always sliped off them while playing mario kart and once I was realy far into a race and my finger sliped and hit the power button.

I feared the most for the gameplay of Metroid MPH. But I've won my first online play with the Lite.
Somehow I grab the Lite better than the DSone, wich was usually slipping when I made a U-turn to shoot the guy behing me.
For the D-pad, i'm still able to snake around in Mariokart. So no problem either.

But I admit that keeping 2 buttons pushed at the same time is a little harder to manage than on the original.

I have taken an NDSL apart and I can tell you it's cheaply made.  The entire construction is very streamlined. I would say the button switches are of lesser quality than phat DS.  The phat DS is a more rugged design.  I would be mindful not to drop your NDSL much.

Oh realy I thought it would have been just about the same as the first DS.  I took that one apart and it looked pretty well built

I guess I should have said I've taken both DS versions apart.  Yes the L R switches on the NDSL are much smaller (cheaper) than the phat DS.

I find my Tetris skills are a bit challenged by the new tiny d-pad (it hurts my thumb less tho). It does feel "lighter weight" and not in the actual scale weight way... if you get me. Slightly lower quality plastic than the old guy I'd assume.

I dropped my old DS a few times... scary, but no problems. I'm dreading dropping the li'l guy. I know I'll do it, but I'm praying it's cool with a drop or two. My phone usually survives... oh wait, I haven't dropped my current phone yet. F*ck, I hope I didn't jinx myself.

I dropped my lite down the stairs, it fell all the way down onto a wooden floor hitting just one stair on the way, but I turned it on and it was fine.
Probably just me being lucky though.

I... don't remember what my original DS felt like. Sort of clunky, and I remember it being annoying in Castlevania. But obviously the DS Lite is better, because it doesn't have clicky buttons.

Nobody likes clicky buttons.

Nobody.

A lot of times these things take time and don't appear immediatly.
