Since I usually play my dsl at home, I keep it plugged in the charger all the time.  Does this use up battery life, or am I just running off the AC adapter's power?

If I took the battery out, could I still turn on the dsl with it plugged in?

You can't turn the DS/DSLite on without the battery inserted.

I believe when you play it fully charged, plugged into the wall, you are running off the battery, while the battery is taking a charge from the AC adapter.  I don't think you are really fully bypassing the battery...  And, I can't confirm this, but I've been told from several sources in the past that Li-ion batteries do not do well (in terms of lifespan) to be kept fully charged all the time.  I don't know if this is true.  What I know to be true is that they shouldn't be left totally and completely dead for long (I've actually permanently killed a couple of lithium-ion batteries this way)...

I haven't heard about the shotened lifespan for being fully charged. Where did you here that?

Anyway, i do know having many more low drains is better than fewer more intense drains for battery life.

Wikipedia has a good article on Lithium Ion batteries and their lifespans.

According to wikipedia...
"Another advantage is that their lifespan remains relatively unaffected if they are kept "plugged in" after they have been fully charged. Other rechargeable batteries may degrade in these circumstances."

I guess that answers my question.  I am saving my battery's life by keeping it plugged in. Horray.

Now they just need batteries that last for a lifetme.
